  1. 1400w Bluezilla + Kolossus Grow First things first: (Warning: my updates will likely be only 2 to 3 times per month, and I do tend to write more than I need to) Hardware: 2 x 400w Philips mag HPS ballast 1 x 400w Apollo 400w Bulb 1 x 400w Eye Hortilux HPS 400w Bulb* 2 x reflector 1 x 600w Gavita 600e Digistar 1 x 600w Gavita 600w HPS bulb* A/C 24 hours @ 24°C (outside temperature is around 30-35°C) temperature at plant tops: ~28-31°C Veg: 15/9 Flo: 12/12 DWC with lots of airflow 15L buckets, some 2" net pots, some with 3", some with 6" Nutes: GH-Flora 3 part OR Advanced Nutrients 3 part (the old one) - I have both, together in enough quantities for the duration of this grow. I have found that interchanging them, as long as I am using all 3 of them, has no negative effects. (I am not talking about mixing GH and AN together, but rather one week of topping up with GH and the next week with AN.) Additives: Cannazym/Sensizym - throughout the cycle PK 13/14 - when necessary Superthrive - a couple sprays during the early stages pH - 5.6-6.0 ppm - 400-450 during veg, we will see how she likes it during flowering. she was super content with 500-550 last time around, and that's what I will aim for. *Until November 9th, the 600w bulb being used is a Philips Greenpower 600w, and the 400w Bulb being used is a Philips 400w Son-T bulb. The hortilux and gavita bulb are on the way from 'Murica. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ BZ#1 After finding a keeper of FOTH's BZ (Bluezilla : New Blue Diesel x Shackzilla), shown above, I decided it was time for me to do a bigger grow with a single uniform phenotype. Towards the end of September, I cut 2 plants of BZ#1 up into clones. Extra info: BZ#1 is (I think) a 50/50 pheno with both sat and indica tendencies. The nugs are dense (but not like the rocks of some indica that I picked up in Cali once) and coated. the fan leaves and stems are coated as well. The smell is skunky, cheesy, pungent, and diesel-ish. The smoke tastes like very high quality charas, very hashy taste. The high is a combination of in the head and in the hamstrings - your head will be rolling along but your hamstrings will not feel like going anywhere. It seemed to have blue tendencies in some of the lower nugs, but I don't think that my temperatures will be conducive to colours. It is not like a killing fields which I've heard colours in almost any temperature. within 5 days, the first tangible roots had shown (not just white bumps, but strands), and within 10 days they were dying to be put under a real light instead of a t5. they were granted their wish at the end of the month: here they are, 2 days into their new homes, on the first of october: here, we have 9 clones around a 400w (which will be shortly replaced by a 600w). The one on the right, in line with the bulb and in contact with the screen, is a BZ#0 - a much, much more sativa leaning pheno of the same parents, extremely stretchy and 2 weeks longer flowering. That is why the other buckets have 2 clones per bucket and this has it's own. It is the smallest to start, but will rapidly take up more than it's fair share of space... This screen is 38" wide - 1m - and 40" tall - about 1 m. here, we have a total of 5 clones under a 400w with a standard reflector, nothing fancy. Two in 1 bucket with 2" net pots, and 3 in one bucket in one 6" net pot. The reason the pots are all over the place is because I planned on something different initially and then changed the plan a couple times before settling on this one. I have always been an advocate of vertical bare bulb growing - purely due to the heat in my country. if i lived in finland, perhaps I'd be an advocate of horizontal bulb orientation. But whatever it is, making assumptions with 0 experience and ambiguous evidence is not something I like to do. Hence, I decided to do the following: one vertical grow around a 600w bulb in an area of 1.5 x 1 m, and a horizontal grow right next to it under 2 x 400w with reflectors. It's not a good experiment, as there is no control, and the sample size is limited, and there are many variables that are not controlled, like uneven reflectivity and passive lighting from neighbouring lamps. but it should give me some idea of how these two systems work and how they differ. There is only 1 x 400w in the picture. the second will be placed adjacent to it, with a DIY reflector I made from a sheet of reflective material (possibly the same thing used in reflectors; i found it lying around at a hardware store and took it) that I kind of bent into a reflector shape. I also received this beautiful piece of hardware that i bought from Germany on the 1st; she was set up immediately, but was not used till about a week later; I did not want to burn the young clones. as you can see, the dial is kind of wonky and points in the wrong direction; the pointer is off by about 180°. I didn't even ask Gavita what was wrong, I figured it's some kind of manufacturing defect, could not find any others like it online...it seems to work normal though, it is pulling a hair over 600w/h so I think the functioning is fine. now, less words and more pictures: the 7th of oct, still going 400w on the vertical: starting to see the differences between vert and horizontal and their effects on the plant 10th of october, really starting to grow: (the new plants in the background are also BZ#1; the 2 buckets furthest back were removed later to make room for the Kolossi.) 15th of Oct 20th of Oct The screen has been put in place. Below, we see Kolossi, a week old or so. There were supposed to be 20, but just after sowing them I was forced to do some travel for work and when i came back 4 days later, there were only 15 that had survived. Due to some other unrelated shit, 2 more of them died as well, and I have 13 Kolossi. 25th October: the time to flip will come before November. It will be early for the Kolossi but I'm really only growing them to find a keeper or two, and they do not need to be at full size (I think) to do that. As soon as they're large enough they will be cloned. they are smaller than they should be as they have been a lot farther from the light than they should be. That problem should be solved soon. Basically, we have one scrog under a 400w, one scrog around a 600w, and one kolossal clusterfuck under another 400w. I hope to be cut and cleaned up by the end of January, ready to roll again. Best Vibes to All El Chupa
  2. Ok, I just connected and tried to fire up my Gavita Digistar 600e with a new 600w Philips Greenpower HPS bulb. Here's what happens: after three seconds, the bulb turns on and immediately turns off. The led on the ballast continues to rapidly pulse a yellow light, which according to the manual means that it's igniting. It says that if there's a problem, check the wiring and the bulb. I figured that the bulb was turning on so there was probably no problem in the wiring. (I should make it clear here that the plug that came with the ballast to connect it to the mains is two pin - this means there is no grounding on the mains end). Is there any way for me to definitively find out if the problem is with the bulb or the ballast? Because I was really looking forward to doing a vert grow with this ballast, if i'm not going to have a working 600w, I need to change my setup and the distance of the screen from the bulb accordingly to work with a 400w. any ideas people??
  3. Hi opengrowers! Recently i bought a pack of reg. Herijuana and Chocolate rain. Started to germinate 2 seeds from each pack and ended up with 2 chocolate rain seedlings. Herijuana seeds cracked but one didn't made it after that and the other died from my mistake. So, after a month veg, i ended up with 1 chocolate rain female. The chocogirl was under 105w fluoros all her life (she is around 2 months old now). And she is going to stay in veg stage for 2-3 more weeks, until i harvest some ak-47 that are in the flowering tent. Some info about the setup used: Veg tent: 80x80x160 cm, 105w fluoro lighting, exhaust fan, vent fan. Flowering tent: 120x120x200 cm, 400w or 600w lighting, exhaust fan with carbon filter, vent fan Nutes: trying AN micro and bloom to see if they are better from my old GHE grow, bloom, micro Additives: some trichoderma and mycos from time to time to prevent root rot and help growth. Medium: water! dwc style single pots or connected as a r-dwc Growth style: usually scrog, because i run only 1 up to 4 plants per run. Here is the chocolate rain, you can see some training i do now to the plant, so it can shape up better when i put in under the HPS. Her branches are very strong and often i have to brake them a bit before they become wood. The scrog net is kind of loosy but it helps me sometimes like this. The next 2-3 weeks updates gonna be kind of boring but what can we do, it takes time
  4. Hello all the peep, Just searching info on 400V 600W bulbs for Electronic ballast, which's the best bulbs and where is the best place for buying them by unity (or two) around Benelux and EU ? I have found this site proposing Osram and Philips, is it a safe site ? their shipping change a lot between country of destination... http://www.hortiligh...-grow-lamp.html Philips http://www.hortiligh...l?brand=7&cat=9 Osram There are also this one more expensive on the bulbs less on the fees... http://www.dutch-hea...ower-p-901.html Some others sites have better offers but for a bulk of 12 bulbs, so who need 600W 400V EL bulbs..? lol Thanks by advance for the answer. Kind regards Hiwatt
  5. Hello my friends! This will be the last grow before spring and summer starts. It has to last so I will try to give my best. Let me show you arround. The plants have been prevegged in 4L/1gal pots for two weeks. Light Mix all the way. I used 2x 2x75W Tneons. As 3 Mad Kush didnt germinate (my fault) I used two of the empty pots and just sowed a handfull of my own seeds. Its a wild mix between Anesthesia (mother) and C99xChronic, Herijuhana and Jackberry (I think), As I used two C99C males there could be more of those. So far the plants got the usuall stuff. Root and Growth stims (Ecolizer), pH6,5 and ComCat. When I repotted them into the 10L/2,5gal pots today I watered them with Supervit, ComCat, Sannies Bacto and the other stims. I plan to let them root through the pots for 2 weeks, then 9 weeks of 12/12. I will use FishMix, Hesi BC. Hesi PP, Bloomstim (Ecolizer) and molasses. Thats it for today. Have a nice evening everypony. Grobi
  6. Hello! I looking for a new e-ballast. Gavita electronic ballast looks interesting. Searching around, I found good price from Hanfburg for Gavita Digistar 600w. However, i read that Phillips GP is not recommended due different acoutic resonance (not sure if its right word). However I decide for Gavita lamp to be safe. Plus embedded cord on lamp holder for ventilated cooltube. But I dont find those things in the same shop. Do you know other shops that carry all three stuffs with competive price? If not, I might be forced to shop from two shops. I read that I lose about 30% of light with ventiliated cooltube in small growtent like Homebox S size with 400w hps. Is it not possible with normal reflector from Gavita in such setup, I assume? One small curious question that maybe Whazzup might have answer for? how many khz do 600w gavita delivers in comparison with Lumatek on dimmed mode at 400w? If I remember Lumatek delivers about 75khz. To summarize the whole post, I would be interested to look at list of shops that ship Gavita Digistar ballasts, there I may find other interesting products as PL-L, ph/ec meters etc. Thanks in advance for replies
  7. Hi everyone, I've been lurking around here for a while, learning from so many people that are kind enough to share pictures, research and time. Enough of just sitting back, time to participate! This is going to be the second run in this setup, I have a little OCD so I can't stop adjusting everything. I'm always trying to improve things, one little thing at a time. I've got a DR120 with a 600W HPS for flowering. We currently have 6 ladies under the light, they got between 2 - 3 weeks of veg and have 2 - 4 weeks left in flower. I just upgraded the fan from a 6 in booster fan to this 420 CFM monster... It's actually dimmed to 40%, and my temps have dropped 2 degrees directly on top of the hood. Not too bad. It's actually 78 degrees and 45 % RH inside the canopy. I've also got a 400W 4ft T5 that I use for seedlings, clones and vegging. Hopefully we'll be able to keep a bonsai mother or 2 as well. The plan is to set up perpetually so I can pull 1 plant out of flowering every 2 weeks. Currently in flowering, we have 2 Killing Fields ( the limited FEM freebee batch ). Both show more color than my lavender plants! I won't start to describe the smell, but if you've seen KF grows, or heard Sannie describes the smell and taste, it's exactly it. Strong, dark, complex smell. I took a sample last week, I couldn't even let it dry for 3 days... This is going to be some TASTY weed for sure if that sample is any indication. KF1 has 4 big tops and looks similar to some phenos I've seen grown here. KF 1 - The sample came from one of her lower branches. She has some of the biggest buds in the tent! KF2 is a bit of a mutant. She started by being twice as stretchy as a seedling and has had smaller, crimped leaves. I think it's a trait from the blueberry side... . Flowering was slow to trigger and then it stretched way too much, so it got it's dose of supercropping. While I'm not expecting much yield from this girl, it could be an 11 week pheno, so she could put putting on a little extra weight next couple weeks. KF1 look very promising, I definitely see a full pack of KF in my future. I also have 2 Sugar Punch that smell like... i don't know. WHAT IS THAT SMELL SANNIE? I think it's naughty candy canes... It actually smells sweet and you just want to stick your nose in again to make sure you just smelled candy. SP1 - Another early sample I took, this got to dry for 3.5 days, when I ground it up, it filled the room with sweet smell. I was surprised him much this smelled for some uncured, early bud. SP1 is falling over herself from the weight of the buds, I supercropped the branches in the wrong direction a few weeks back, so that didn't help. I've got a couple sticks helping her out now. SP2 was made a little too branchy, between topping once too many times and structure, this girl takes 1.5 times more room, the buds are smaller. My fault. I've also got a beautiful Jackberry X NYCD ( regular seeds ) that actually smells like fruit and a little fuel. The JBD is starting to show a little color on the lower buds... The nights can get frisky, so if the genes are there, the color will show. For a freebee that I could find nothing about, it sure looks great... And it's looking like it's going to finish right around 7 - 8 weeks. For the next round, we have to pop some seeds. One of each: Kollosus ( fem ) Mad Shack ( fem ) Sugar Punch ( fem ) I'll also pop 2 KO Kush in hopes of finding / keeping 1 female. That's the veg closet with the T5, it's currently empty, except for some seeds that will go in those sponge pots once the temp drops a few degrees. Next update I'll build the SCROG screens I plan on using for the next round and report back on a larger, riper sample of SP1.
  8. Hey folks Just started a new round few days ago and I would like to share this in a new forum 250w GIB Lightning MH 600w Gavita Digistar / Philipps Son T-Pia Plus 60% Bio Bizz Light Mix / 40% Coco bricks in 11 and 9 liters Advanced Hydroponics 3-part Grow,Bloom,Micro Clones cutted 3 weeks ago and repotted in 11 and 9l yesterday. Bonsais; 8 months young My english isn't the best so excuse me for some mistakes
  9. Here we go lads, Growreport N°3 As the title says there are 14x reg Anesthesia 14x reg Chocolate Rain (from now on just called "ChocR") 1x fem Sugar Punch 1x fem Heribei The plants have been raised under 2x 150W T5 for some weeks now. Theyve been repotted 2 days ago and are since then under the 600W MH. As Iam using Light Mix I will let the plants settle in for another week in Veg to make some roots and suck the soil empty. They were started in 4L Pots and are now in 9L/10L Pots. ChocR in 9L, the rest in 10L. Iam using a wide range of nutes, mostly snake oil and "for fun". My nutes are: Stims and such: Com Cat, Neudorf Stechmücken-Ex (Bacillus Thurigensis israelis), Hesi SuperVit, Ecolizer: Grow Up, Root Up, Bloom Up, ATA XL, Milford Molasses (organic) NPK: Fishmix, Hesi Phosphor Plus, Canna PK 13/14, Plagron Terra Bloom. Also I have Canna Mono: Trace, Mg, Ca. Also I have (but do not want to use): GHE Ripen and GHE One Part Gro. I have an EC Meter (Adwa and Liters of cal juice) and very good pH "drops" from GHE. Here is a pic the first day after repotting: (40h ago) The plants look a bit "crushed" from the small Veg closet. They will like the big tent ALOT! 40 hours later they have started to spread their wings! To control and tame this Jungle I have two new toys ^^ Yes, it is true. I am in fact so stupid, that it took me 5 Grows to realize how important a web is It costed like 10€ and will help me probably more than anything I bought in the last year So much from me! If there is a nice visible growth spurt than I will so the next update. One question to y´all: I have 1 week (8 days) of veg left. Should I top the ChocR or just go for it and snap the stretchers around the WebIt? Woule really like to see her untopped first... but I hope she is not as "topping needy" as the Jack Berry ^^ Have fun, enjoy your stay! GB
