Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Ok, this is my first run with Sannie's genetics and Im stoked to give them a shot. I have been growing for a little over a year now and if your curious about my previous grows, they can be found in my introduction and Piss&Blue Kush journal here on the site. For this first run, I put 6 small 6"-8" Madonna clones in my setup. When the Blue Kush finishes up in a week or two, I will put 4-6 Hericules clones in on the other side. My grow room is 10ft wide, 5ft deep, and 3ft4in tall. I run dual 600w Ushio OptiRed's in SuperSun II reflectors of a Lumatek Dual 600w 240v ballast. The reflectors are air cooled with a 6" CanFan and insulated duct. These are fixed mounted(Because of height limits) above my 3ft x 8ft Scrog screen. And under that are my 2 custom shallow 5gal res's. I run 2 GH Dual Diaphram air pumps with 8 5.5" air discs in each tub(total of 4 pumps and 16 air discs). And to feed all of the girls I use Technaflora's BC Boost, BC Grow, BC Bloom, Thrive Alive Red, Awesome Blossom, Magical, and Sugar Daddy. I have also started to run Humboldt's County's SnowStorm Ultra and Gravity, but they are on a test basis and may be removed if proper results are not achieved. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them. I will always try to anser them to the best of my abilities. Thanks for stopping by. And now on with the grow... Madonna Day 1 of 12/12 CO2 PPM 1500 Rm Temp 79F RH 40% PH 5.7-6.0 PPM's 390 Res Temp 67-70F

Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Im excited to see the Madonnas and those Hericules wont disappoint. Thanks for sharing! What kind of yield do you hope for? Im hoping to hit at least a pound per light. Really shooting for a pound and a half. Shooting for the proverbial 1 gram per watt. I managed a pound per light On my last run which was a .75gpw, so Im sure once I get the right strain dialed in I should be able to get a little closer. But only time will tell. Thanks for stopping by.
Issack 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 Looking good. Interested to see how Madonna and Herc do in Scrog with Hydro. I have both strains in my mom room. Wanting to try one on my next Ebb n Flow scrog. Keep up the green thumb man.
Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 Looking good. Interested to see how Madonna and Herc do in Scrog with Hydro. I have both strains in my mom room. Wanting to try one on my next Ebb n Flow scrog. Keep up the green thumb man. Me too. I've been wanting to grow Some of Sannie's strains for so long and I finally get the show started. I dont know if its my nutrients or what, But I already have a slight nutrient burn on the girls from bumping the ppms from 350 to 450. They seem sensative, but every plant is a light feeder in my setup, Ive never been able to go above 750ppm without problems. Im just hoping the stress doesnt stunt them too much, not the way I wanted this grow to start. If you have pics of yours when they get going, feel free to share. Issack 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 wow they didn't like 450ppm.? what are your usual ppms in the beginning with other strains.? my current Jack H grow i started them off at 900ppm and they loved it. but my rez change the next week i went to 1200 and i had to drain some water right away to adjust cause of burn. I use House & garden nutes. i think every line has it's different ppm ranges. looks like you got yours dialed in. watching this one closely. Helps me to know how much i need to feed when i grow these strains. Thanks for the info and updates.!

I usually peak them out to about 750-800ppm in mid flower and then gradually drop them off at the end. But no joke, these girls burned at 450ppm, they are kinda small though. And I think I have to run my ppms so low because of the dwc, but with soil I was in the 1200ppm range.

Was reading a 1.6-1.8 EC on my feedings, plants were nice sized bushes as well. They're pretty toasty now. I'm thinking my EC meter may have been calibrated poorly or just got out of sync. The Joker 705 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 Could be. I haven't grown the jack, but grew in several forms of hydro for a while. Sativas don't like nutes as much as indicas. But burning at 450 ( .5 conversion) seems nuts. Could be your meter. I've not seen burning until I go over 1000 for certain strains. I know that sometimes more oxygen allows you to pump up the ppm. DD"s was running 1600 ppm in his DWC monster contraptions without any burning! In ebb and flow, it's the opposite. Since you have dissolved oxygen should be no prob. Did you add anything that would cause nute lock out or lower the ph? Adding organics to my hydro set up made all sorts of ph problems. Not to mention gook. Were there any heat issues. High res temps can also cause lock out. Was it a summer time grow?
Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2010 Madonna(day 18) & Hericules(day 3) Rm Temp 80F RH 45% CO2 ppm 1500 PH 5.7-6.1 PPM's 250-350 Res Temp 69-72F Despite a small nutrient burn during the first week, the Madonna's are doing great. I am hoping they will stretch a little bit more and fill out the screen a little better, but if not I know to just veg them for another 5-7 days. I have never had a strain eat so lightly. I just saw my first real drop in ppm's today. They went from 300 to 140 over night. Previously, they would go from 300 to 240 overnight. The Hericules went in smoothly and seems to be doing fine, I also hope they are a little more stretchy than the Madonnas if they are going to fill out my screen, but only time will tell. If there are an questions or comments, feel free to post them. Thanks for stopping by.

The Joker 705 Report post Posted September 15, 2010 I can't believe you change the res daily!!! Is that because you don't have space for a back up with a float valve to fill the levels? Hats off. Grow looks great.
Mad Scientist 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2010 I can't believe you change the res daily!!! Is that because you don't have space for a back up with a float valve to fill the levels? Hats off. Grow looks great. It is only a 5 gallon res change. Its very simple and takes about 5 minutes. The reason I do it is because there are 3-6 plants sharing a 5 gallon res. They tend to eat a lot of nutes in a day and when I top off, it makes a buildup of something that burns most of my girls. So I do it once a day and they usually stay pretty healthy. I use an inline MagDrive pump that I hook to and empty 5gallon bucket bucket with a ball valve and pump it emty from the valve on the res. Then I have a 5 gal bucket of nutrients premixed that I just gravity feed into the res. And since its only 5 gallons with less than a 1 gallon nutrient mix in it, its is inexpensive and only takes 5 minutes.
The Joker 705 Report post Posted September 16, 2010 I had an 8 gallon res, 14 gallon control bucket, 6 2 gallons waterfarms. If I did not make a mess, it could take me an hour to an hour and a half to change out nutes, then more time to refill. I did it every two weeks or every week depending and it was a major deal. I run a 5 gallon bucket now and it goes pretty quick. The idea of spending an hour or more a day kind of blew my mind.

I just did a double so it took closer to 15 min to do the Madonna and Hericules.

I run a 400w above my mothers too. Our grows are freaky similar. Thanks for the compliments. The Madonna is going nuts. They are already bigger and starting to frost up since the pics were taken.
