!550w of CFL! Perpetual Grow Cab

Recommended Posts

Hi Opengrow. I am currently attempting a perpetual grow using a 58"H X 48"W X 20"D Cab and 550 watts of CFL i built for less than $150 USD. I have a veg chamber and a slightly larger flowering chamber. I have been growing seeds from local bags of smoke first to "get back in the groove" :D They were really just planted for a lil practice and also to work out any problems in my plans. I have since germed 3 Killing Fields fem and 3 El Monstre seeds from Sannie. I also have a few AK 48 I will be running as well and hopefully one day cross the cherry AK and EM for a blueberry/cherry AK cross:)

Here's the Cabinet

Here's a closer look at the veg chamber(larger plants are AK mums&dads)

The 3 on the front row are KF fem at 14 days from sprout and back row is El Monstre freebees at 14 days as well

I can't wait to clone and fill up my space with Sannies gear!! :)

Any comments, advice, or suggestions are welcome :)

Wow that's a whole lotta bulbs <_<

But to be fair, how about reflection? Most of the light coming from your bulbs is going into directions which will never reach your plants, or with loss of lumen. Not sure where i got this tip from (i thought from Whazzup on Wietforum), but when you split a soda-can in half (from top to bottom), you'll get 2 tiny reflectors. Which you can place on the bulb holder. Just a thought to make those bulbs more efficient :D

Eitherway, good luck with those KF fems and El monstre!

Hi Cushpak,

on the WF we could see, that these cfl´s are not effective.

The results are standing at 0,4 g/w.

With the T8 of T5 the results are much beter, up to more than 1 g/w.

Voor a beter result you´ve got to change the illumination.

Nice cab, I ´would try to fix the light-leaks. <_<

interesting, thanks. This is a temporary light fixture until I find the most effecient light source. These sound good as heat and ventilation are major concerns. I will research the T8 and T5 as well. <_<

Well I have came to the conclusion a 400W or 250W HID cooltube setup would be best. My cab is 50cm D X 83cm H X 121cm W But, until I can afford to upgrade this will have to do.

Sorry for omitting these in my earlier post out but they've came such a long way in so little time. :tu

These strains from Sannie have been the strongest/fastest growing I've ever had :tu

:tu Here's a update:

Everything has been going well I took 2 clones from each of My KF's and EM's. They are growing fast. After sexing the EM I will repot females into bigger pots. I already have 3 or 4 clones rooted from each of the AK's as well. My bag seed girls are ripening. I will look for anything that has "keeper potential" but compared to my new additions it will be unlikely. More room for better genetics! :). I tried a sample :). It will at least be rewarding smoke for now........ :)

There are dark black/purple spots on the most ripe of these. Maybe it's normal?

Daer Cushpak,

the plants are looking nice and are doing well! :tu

But be carefull:

gallery_2657_1541_851108.jpg

I think you are giving to much nutrients. The leafs are getting brown at the "edges" (Sorry!),

this is a sign of feeding to much .

@Hempyfan

Why thank you :tu

@Maverick

Yes fluorescent lighting does better than many give credit for :)

@Tortsi

lol, yes they were overfed by my mistake. :tu (trial and error) I have since lowered nutrient levels in this stage of growth. I will not be so careless with my confirmed strains... :) :)

Hi Cushpak,

I didn´t thought that you´ll overfeed your ladies till they die! :tu

This happens very often with mineral-feeding and after the harvest you can smell it in your stash.

It´s a typical PK13/14 problem.

"My cab is 50cm D X 83cm H X 121cm W"

Just a little thought of me:

In this cabinet I would use the T5 54 watt High Output. There is enough space for 6 or 7 tubes ( 324 watt / 378 watt).

It will be something like this: I´am using 10 of these tubes.

gallery_5351_9678_95844.jpg

If you are using HPS /HPi you´ll loose the height for the plants, also with using a cooltube.

I have tried to find information on building a T5 fixture like this with no success .... :) I'm always looking to learn new ways to grow better smoke :tu

Cushpak I made some T5 HO fixtues. I used wood and mylar. The sockets are the hardest to locate and they are not cheap, then nothing about the T5 HO is cheap. As I recall I found the cheapest sockets from an aquarium supply site and I bought the ballasts off of Ebay.

Update Killing Fields El Monstre: I have sexed 2 males out of 3 El Monstre so far :tu but, I will keep the stonger smelling for breeding :) ....

The KF fems are doing nicely KF 3 is still ahead of the rest at 7in. tall they have been on 12/12 5 days. They are 25 days from seed and both the KF and EM are twice as big as the AK-48 were at day 24! Hopefully they'll finish between 14-16in. tall this would be a perfect canopy in my space i think....

@ maverick

yes I noticed the prices as well.... Hopefully I can provide myself with enough smoke to save up the $$$ lol :)

The $$ spent on my smoking habit is ridiculous :tu :) :tu

Hey Cushpak,

the T5´s are expensive, but they are worth it.

If you´re from the US: search for Fulham Racehorse. They are producers from T5 technic-stuff.

The reflectors I´am using are from an aqaurium-store, the tubes and fittings are from an online-lightning-shop.

These is a picture of my last grow:

If you think, the harvests under T5 are poor :tu

@Tortsi

I am a big fan of your thread on WF. needless to say I am inspired by the grows you've accomplished. :tu My dutch is bad. How much were your previous yields under 540w of T5?

@FlaTransplant

Thanks, trying to make the most out of what little space I have has been a chore but a beloved hobby as well.... I have about 7 or 8 different strains Hopefully I can narrow it down to 3 favs that best fit my setup/plans to run in SOG :)

Hi Cushpak,

the result of the last grow was: 628g = 1,16 g/w.

The ladies were Super-Shiva´s and they were standing 12 weeks.

The nutrients are still the same: Advanced Nutrients Connoiseur, but now I`am using the whole serie.

Greetings

Torsten

1.16 gpw :) That is very impressive

I am currently running 515w in flower 380w 2500k spectrum/135w 5500k spectrum

.4 gpw ( :) IF I could do this...) would be 206gr. This will be @ max 10-12 wk cycle. this would be around 17-20grams a week. :tu

My nutes are currently

VEG

Alaskan Fish emulsion 5-1-1

Organic Mater Magic 8-5-5 (also has 4.50%Calcium 1%Sulfur)

Flower

Bonide Root stimulator with IBA hormone 4-10-3 (chemical ammonium phosphate)

Shultz cactus formula 2-7-7 ( also has .10% iron .05% manganese .05% zinc) also chemical ammonium phoshate

Molasses?? 1-0-5???? :tu

(I would be free of chemicals if I had an available source of organic phosphorous. I'm not familiar with slow-release bone meal and rock phoshate..)

I am using Jungle Growth Pure organic soil with neem cake. I added perilite and lime to stabilize ph. I also added a red wiggler to each of my pots (3L-2 gallons)

If I could achieve these results (.4gpw) in my current setup I would be successfully self-sufficient :) :)

I could then save more money to upgrade my lighting and purchase a proper ph meter, hygrometer, proper nutes, pots, etc. (and pay bills :tu :tu )

So far So good.......

Any advice, comments, or suggestions are welcome

hi cushpak, nice thread and a very decent grow op you have.

I’m in a simular situation; limited space, limited funds, and tired of paying to much for to little below par cheba.

my warm up / refresher grow was with seeds from cannabis seeds .com, you get what you pay for - cheap crap. from 15 seeds I got 3 to finish getting about 180g of not great but very worth while smoke under a 400w hps.

saddly I had to take everything down for security reasons, family and friends visiting from out of town. I’m building a new and better cab and will be using much better genetics - barney’s fem. LSD and eskobar’s fem. cheeseberry haze.

hope your mexi - bag seed keeps ya happy 'till your sannie’s gear is ready to rock. good luck with upgrades.

stay safe, stay high,

- d o g
