400 MH Or 600 MH For 4x4 Tent? (Moms And Clones Only)

Recommended Posts

Will a 400 MH be enough for a 4x4 tent for my ladies or should I go with a 600? It'll be

housing a few moms, and vegging clones. I can't do T5's because I need an air cooled

hood.

Thanks,

I usually say 600w in a 4x4 tent as a standard but the right 400w setup could be great for moms and clones. I would like to hear other opinions on this its a good question.

400w CMH, not MH - MH doesn't have enough red to promote explosive root development.

Thanks, I've read a little on CMH's and they sound great. I wish they came

in higher wattage's for flower rooms. A 400w CMH sounds like it would be

perfect for my 4x4 veg area. Do I need a special ballast or will a regular 400w

Galaxy electronic ballast work?

I think you need a magnetic ballast for CMH bulbs....Electonic ballasts won't fire them.

@cleptor, didn't you convert a ballast to take the CMH bulb?

clep is right about the CMH for a mom and clone tent. and yes you do need a magnetic ballast.

anything hortilux is way overpriced. with the money you save on their bulb you can add an a/c to cool the tent and use a non aircooled hood. please do this. air cooled is shit.

Listen to 4Horsemen.....Aircooled is SHIT....you lose upwards of 30% light.

Go with the MH, it has a bit UV light so it helps the mothers stay healthier than if they dont get any UV like the T5's

If you are only doing mothers and clones, 400 Watt are plenty. I have 4 fairly big backup mothers standing under a 48 watt T5 and they are very healthy actually, even without UV.

Mothers, clones and vegging plants don't need and can't use and absorb big amounts of light anyway, especially mother you usually don't want to have explosive growth on all the time.
