one DJS Blueberry

Recommended Posts

Hi OG's,

recently I purchased a pack of DJ Short Blueberry at attitude

gallery_3562_3094_5834.jpg

I read that this is not the exactly the same lineage as the original blueberry from DJS, but probably something close, and maybe I could find a keeper in this 10 reg seed pack.

I began to grow indoor 5 years ago, my firts strains were Dutch Passion Blueberry and Paradise Amsterdam Flame. I felt in love with the BB (but the AF was not bad at all!).

I moved in a new home 3 months ago, so I didn't want to start with the 10 DJS BB seeds immediately.

But I couldn't wait and i popped one seed, she is growing in soil with AN organic nutes.

Pics:

she vegged under DIY Leds (blue/white/red), with Amnésia x G13H, C99 (FS), Holy Grail OG (DNA) and a personnal cross, Cannalope haze x Deep Purple. But I would like only to focus on the blueberry here.

gallery_3562_3094_233554.jpg

This Blueberry plant was a very slow grower in veg, with an incredibly short main stem.

Very Indica structure with huge leafs, and small side branches.

gallery_3562_3094_204561.jpg

after ~ 3 weeks of veg she went in the flowering tent under 600HPS, 12/12 cycle.

gallery_3562_3094_195350.jpg

She immediately began to strech and showed suddenly a vigourous growth, she developped a huge main stem.

After one week of 12/12 she showes sex, it was a female :innocent: .

gallery_3562_3094_79258.jpg

I began to LST her, I kept the apex, I didn't top her.

I was very carefull to not overwater or overfeed her but when she began to flower, her leafs started to curl

She was in a 4l pot untill the sexing, and i repoted her in a 9l pot, with canna terra pro + soil, piranha, tarantula, voodoo juice and B52.

After 2~3 weeks in 12/12, she drank so much that i had to water her every day with 500~600ml.

So I decided to re-pot her in a bigger pot, and the only pot I had was a 18l.

I was very surpised when I saw the roots, after only 2 weeks in the new 9l pot, just before re-poting in the 18l:

gallery_3562_3094_118739.jpg

huge roots everywhere

gallery_3562_3094_23789.jpg

If only I gave her directly a 18l after sexing...

here is the plant 4 days ago, at 3 weeks of 12/12

the leafs are curling, I don't know why, maybe someone could help.Idon't think that this is because of watering or nutes, maybe more because of the temperatures or air flow.

I raised the bulb, buds are starting nicely, trichomes are coming, she have a nice afghan smell.

Her main stem is the biggest of all plants in the grow box.

If only I could stop this leaf curling...

No signs of hermaphrodism till now.

the grow box, Homebox silver 1x1m, 600 grolux on lumatek superlumen. The DJS BB is the first plant at front in the middle.

Very nice...Could be too low humidity, or too hot. Ive had many plants do this leaf curling, and the buds were always fine.

hey Cox ;)

hey Indican,

too low in humidity I don't think so, this is the opposit here, very bad weather actually and 50-60% humidity, wtith peaks to 70%

but too hot yes, she was too close from the lamp. But the other BBs I grew had this issue too. Definitely not an easy plant to grow

HHHmmmm....I grew origional DJ Short BB back in 2000 or so, she was very easy to grow! Im sure alot of breeding and genetics have been altered since then, but right now, Im growing e$ko's BB, from DJ Short, and they are growing better than the other 10 or more strains I have going. Some claim the "clawing" you have is a nute deficiency, but I dont know. I had an extrema last year that was 'clawed" from start to finish, but the buds were killer. I wouldnt worry too much...

you lucky man! can't wait to grow them :)

it's a good thing to know. At first i thought it was the opposit, so I was very low on nutes, maybe too low. But now she moved from a 9l to a 18l pot with new soil, so if it's a nute deficiency she will recover.

Actually she is doinf fine, buds are growing very nicely.

Indican, you know this strain well, what do you think about the BB yield? is it possible to get a nice yield with her?

err ... i thought "clawing" is associated with too much nutrients.

it happened to me sometime, when i overdid it with ferts.

maybe i am totally misinformed and it had another reason (?)

silver, ur cab lookins very nice and this stem is

THICK, man. good vibes for you and your plants :)

@san

yeah, over-watering is another cause of leaf curling in some strains.

my choc rain esp's clawed their leaves from veg to flower, and the bud was superb.

u start test in those electric beans yet? ;)

hey Santero,

thanks bro, the cab is nice, yes, but i'm not totally pleased. I used too small pots after sexing. Usually I use at least 14liters, and this time I tried 9 liters and it was a bad idea.

The 3 D-PLOPs (Cannalope haze x TGA Deep Purple) are yellowing, and i can't find why. I weigh the plants every day, this way I know exactly how much they drink. So the yellowing issue of the Dplops and the clawing of the DJBB are not because of watering,These plants are very difficult to read for me.

Maybe the yellowing comes simply from the strain. The C99, OG's, Amnesia x G13Haze, and the Ceres Orange Bud are very healthy.

This is possible that the clawing of the DJBB comes from too much nutes, but I gave her at least half strengh compared to what i gave to the C99 and OGs.

here is a pic of the Dplop #2 (cannalope haze melon pheno x (purple urkle x purple urkle x space dude)), I called her D-PLOP :)

her smell is amazing, 100% fruity, pineapple/mango/citrus

gallery_3562_3094_230527.jpg

gallery_3562_3094_109492.jpg

hey theduns,

You reassure me when you say that it wont affect bud quality

yes, overwatering... but this is not the case here, I water very carefully.

Maybe too much roots in a too small pot? It was very hard to remove the 9l pot, even if she was not watered. Roots are huge, I've never seen this before.

Or overfeeding? too much fulvic and humic? (she was below 2ml/L of F1 and H2/week)

A nute defficiency?

thanks guys!

the lady today, 6 days after, at 12/12 + 37days, It seems that the clawing stoped, may be thanks to the biger pot. I water and feed very carefully, she is healthier now. But she made me 4-5 bananas in the top bud (only in the top bud), I think this is because there was too much heat at the top. So I raised the lamp a bit.

the grow tent today:

gallery_3562_3123_192964.jpg

at the center of the tent, the D-PLOP#2 :yummy: (cannalope haze x deep purple) personnal cross, amazing colors at 12/12 +42 days, the rainbow pheno

gallery_3562_3123_9929.jpg

gallery_3562_3123_182028.jpg

gallery_3562_3123_115495.jpg

and another D-PLOP, #1 pheno, she will probably show a range of colors, but not as quick as the #2

gallery_3562_3123_130509.jpg

gallery_3562_3123_223402.jpg

gallery_3562_3123_59194.jpggallery_3562_3123_180900.jpg

this F1 cross is amazing, i'm really happy. The mother Cannalope Haze was a 8 weeks melon/pineapple pheno, highly resinous plant, with a strong high, my holy grail, I'm growing her since one year now, everybody loves her. The father is a Subcools Deep Purple (Purple Urkle x Purple Urkle x Space dude) higly vigourous strechy male.

The rainbow pheno #2 has the smell of her mother cannalope, melon/pineapple/mango (tropical punch), a 100% fruity smell, with a little lemony touch added. Short indica structure. A lot of resin at 3 weeks of 12/12. I'm sure she will be very fast.

The pheno #1 is a bit more strechy, the smell is a combination of the cannalope with the floral/grape smell of the Urkle, 50/50.

I have another all light green pheno #3 with the same smell as the #1, but not colored yet.

It was a very experimental cross, I made only 70 seeds.

I'm just an humble padawan  , but both parents were nice, so It was something almost evident for me. I wanted to see how could be a polyhybrid mostly sativa x mostly indica cross (not very stable :) ).

I dreamed about a purple cannalope...with shorter structure, this is exactly the "rainbow" pheno #2 :engel

damn man ,

after seeing thyose beatifull plants u created and knowing u only made 70 seeds it seems it just aian't right.

do a little simple selection with those other seeds, and tehn experiment with taking those select males back to your holu grale cannalope haze. see what happens. i'd use at least 4 cuts of the cannaope with 4 different males to see what happens. enjoy yourself .

btw the picture of that tent with the strins mraked is an excellent shot. so simple yet so profound at the same time imho. congrat  s

Hey silver surfer,

Just wanted to let you know that you maybe experiencing nitrogen overdose/toxicity with your blueberry plant.

Nitrogen Toxicity:

Leaves are often dark green and in the early stages abundant with foliage. If excess is severe, leaves will dry and begin to fall off. Root system will remain under developed or deteriorate after time. Fruit and flower set will be inhibited or deformed. With breakdown of vascular tissue restricting water uptake. Stress resistance is drastically diminished.

Having too much nitrogen in your growing mediums or soil. The plant will have like an overall DARK green look and have delayed maturity. Due to Nitrogen being involved in vegetative growth, to much nitrogen will result in tall plants with weak stems. New growth will be very lively and plant transpiration will be high, but not always. Nitrogen toxicity can be seen when there are very very dry conditions almost as if there was a drought, which may show a burning effect. If you give your plants ammonium based nutrients they may show NH4+ toxicity, which will show a smaller plant growth and lesions that occur on stems and roots, leaf margins that will roll downward. Also the big fan leaves will have “the claw” look. The tips will point down but the leaves will stay up as if when you bend your fingers downwards. Leaves can be twisted when growing… mainly new growths. Roots will be under developed along with the slowing of flowering. Yields will be decreased, because to much nitrogen in early stages of flowering slows down bud growth. Water uptake is slowing down from the vascular breakdown of the plants as well. Too much potassium and nitrogen will lock out calcium as well.

*Credit to original posters!*

Here is a few pics of what nitrogen toxicity can look like.

Hey Warrior,

thanks man!

yes, a backcross with the cannalope could be very interesting, that's the way to go.

Hey 4twizzle,

Thanks man. Yes it could come from that, maybe yes, maybe not.

I used a very small amount of nitrogen, iguana grow at 1ml/l, one time in the first week of 12/12, and my soil is canna pro +, a very light soil. I have 4 other strains in my grow tent, and no one reacts as the BB does.

to much nitrogen will result in tall plants with weak stems.

this blueberry plant has the strongest stem of the tent, and she is not the oldest plant

Roots will be under developed along with the slowing of flowering.

this plant has an extremely dense root zone, I was very impressed when i discovered that

gallery_3562_3094_184217.jpg

but I feel that too much nutrients is probably the problem, she started to claw after a watering with a medium quantity of iguana bloom and F1/H2, the others plants reacted well, the BB didn't. Maybe the fulvic/humic is involved.

Now everything is ok, the clawing stoped on the new leaves, the green is shiny and bud developpement is ok.

Yeah, the reason I said that it could be nitrogen toxicity is because your plant looks almost identical to what my plant looked like with NT. I don't think you have to experience all of the symptoms to have NT. My plant had a strong root system and stems, but she was getting too much nitrogen, so I cut back and she recovered nicely. The clawed leaves on your plant will never straighten out, but growth should be normal now that she's recovering. Hope she's not one of those REALLY nitrogen sensitive ladies. Anyway, I'll be enjoying the show! Happy Growing!

Peace, 4twizzle

that's interesting 4twizzle, thanks, next time I will grow her without Iguana Grow during the strech, to see if it changes a thing.

Maybe she is nitrogen sensitive, for sure this plant is more sensitive than other plants.

Hey Drip-n-wet,

yes, roots are amazing, as the size of the main stem, huge!

more BB porn at 44 days after the flip, she loves the light feeding regime

D-PLOP#2 more strechy pheno, they are all very fast plants, ready at 8 weeks from seed, probably 7 weeks from cuttings. They suffered a bit because the pots were too small
