small LED grow round 4

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Two weeks ago I started a new led grow, one Grapegod cutting under my new flowering led light.

Lamp: total power with fans=63W- 4 engines Osram and Cree- active cooling (2,4W of fans) - 28x2W LEDs, no lenses.

Plant: GRAPEGOD Next Generation Seeds, 8 weeks pheno, not grapefruity pheno but very sweet smell and very powerfull high

here is a pic of the plant from seed, grown under 600W HPS, which one i took cuttings from:

Here is the grow tent and the lamp, DR40 40x40x120 with 12VDC PC fan (3W):

the young lady in a 3 L pot:

gallery_3562_3666_260106.jpg

She moved to a 11L pot, with canna pro + soil and 2 Sannie's tabs + piranha + tarantula + voodoo juice, and got one more 18/6 week. After one week she was rooted enough in the 11l and I switched to 12/12.

Now after one week of 12/12, she filled completely the tent:

First buds will start to grow now. Let's see how big and dense they will be.

For the another LED grow i started 4 seeds under LEDs too, veg spectrum:

Subcool's agent orange (reg), 2 seeds

The Pure (reg) FDM

gallery_3562_3666_311967.jpg

E$ko's Shiva (fem), tiny seed, tiny plant, but healthy plant, I think she will grow to a normal plant. The Pure is 5x bigger than the Shiva and they sprouted at the same time.

hey Hiwatt!

thanks bro! I hope i will have at least one good AO plant, if not i will start new beans. Unfortunately i don't want too many MJ plants at home for safety reasons, and my veg tent is full of fruits and vegetables, strawberries, tomatoes, chilli (bolivian rainbow)...

of course you are welcome Smudger! please sit down and roll a spliff :likken:

welcome too here Whazzup and EarthbornAlien!

I'm using 7 leds engines with OSRAM OSLON SSL80 and Cree XTE warmwhite. The OSLON SSL80 has a 80° angle, so there is no need for lenses. Lenses have a cost and the light flux is decreased by 10-15% because of the lens and lens material.

The inescapable OSLON for horticulture is the LH, hyper red 645nm SSL80, now available in 3T bin (48% efficiency at 350mA), this is probably the best 1-2W hyper red led actually available at the market, because of its angle and efficiency. The other one is the Philips lumiled luxeon rebel but the angle is not as good and it is more pricey.

The other inescapable OSLON for horticulture is the LD 455nm deep blue SSL80, very high efficiency too, 46%! that's much better than any HPS.

links to OSRAM website:

http://ledlight.osra...l-led-lighting/

http://ledlight.osra...hting-products/

I'm using Oslon LR 625nm too, our plant loves red for flowering, and not all strains likes 660nm, so I'm trying to use the same amount of 625nm and 660nm, as knna suggested it.

The Cree XTE is probably the best 1W-3Wwarm white actually on the market , i'm using 3200K XTE R2 bin, 115° (not the perfect angle but it wont make a big difference), R2 bin is 131lm @25°C 350mA, very good efficiency for a warmwhite, i think that warmwhite leds are the future of growing.

The XTE will give a small amount of blue and green, and especially some yellow, amber and red, these wavelength are in big amounts in HPS spectrum and we all know that HPS is good. If i remember well, a 600HPS has a 150lm/W efficiency, but a lot is lost because of the reflector.

The XTEs of this lamp will probably have an efficiency of 100lm/W @700mA @70°C and the deep blue and red will improve a lot the spectrum and the overall efficiency. The thing which is difficult to know is the red 625nm Oslon efficiency, because it is given in Lm, and i would like to know it exactly in % to compare it with the deep red oslon efficiency. It seems that the red oslon efficiency is not as good as the deep red efficiency. I'm actually trying to calculate it with the LER or maybe i will ask to someone to measure it.

gallery_3562_3666_17032.png

I could use only deep blue/ww/deep red and i will probably try it for the next grow. The reason i used deep blue/ww/red/deep red is essentially economical.

For the next grow i will have XTE R2 2800K-3000K with deep blue and deep red. Actually this is possible to find XTE R3 bin 140lm@25°C.

The heatsinks are big enough, and a small fan will lower the temperature of the led chips to increase efficiency.

The driver is an HARVARD CLQ twin output 700mA with a very good efficiency too, around 86-87%.

...So I expect good results with this lamp! on the paper, she is much more efficient than the common commercial lamps.

Again full of info, the good thought... Osram make great light in general, their Fluor tubes o are Xlnt, the HPS too, never tried the LED but I should doing this...

I take a chair too with KushMix 99 waterhash, I'll stay for a moment so if you agree ? :j

hey Wrecks and Lurk Daddy,

welcome!

The grapegod is doing well, today she have 20 days of 12/12, the canopy is denser everyday, I will probably remove a few fan leaves, I hesitate.

She have thrips, :wtf2: .

The temperatures are very low actually, only 19-20°C the day, it could be better to have 24°C. This is the inconvenience of LED vs HPS.

gallery_3562_3666_356384.jpggallery_3562_3666_313196.jpggallery_3562_3666_78243.jpg

First trichs are coming. The tent is too small. Maybe i will move the grow to a 60x60 tent.

She is drinking 400ml everyday. I water 1,2L every 3 days, once with pure water, once with ferts.

In the veg tent, tomatoes (red robin) and chilis (hungarian yellow and bolivian rainbow) under 29W of LEDs, (veg spectrum coolwhite/660 (IS)LED kit). There are flowers on almost every plants, I don't know if I will have good sized fruits, we will see. I will pollinate by hand. Red robin is a small tomato strain perfect for indoor. Bolivian rainbow is a beautiful green/purplish chili strain, very strong Scoville 5000-30000.

The girls look great! I can't wait to see your final weight numbers. I've been following your LED threads and I love them, keep them coming!

I live on the East Coast so my LED light is being used to grow tomatoes too. I wanted to point out some interesting things going on with tomatoes that could help you on your next grow. There are some guys in North Carolina that are working towards creating dwarf varieties of tomatoes that are small and bushy and put out full size tomatoes. I just ordered some seeds and I'll be growing three of them very soon. Here is a link to what they are doing: http://www.dwarftomatoproject.net pretty interesting stuff.

Anyway, keep them coming, can't wait for the updates.

hey Bothof,

very interesting link! thanks bro!

the Red Robin is a dwarf tomato plant too, only 8-12 inches, but the tomatoes are small, 1 inch diameter. Red Robin is perfect indoor, and to grow in pots.

Hey Roodni,

thanks bro! they need a warmer temperature but they seems happy, yes. About the chilis and the tomatoes i will probably change the light for a more redish spectrum, they are flowering.

nice little plant, but...

gallery_3562_3666_64906.jpg

but lucky with the strawberries! the veg spectrum works very well on them too (30W/ 40x40cm tent)

hey,

update, I harvested the GG at 52 days, and she was more than ripe. She took around 10 days less VS the same plant from cutting under HPS.

Buds are leafier, this particular strain seems to prefer warmer temperature of color. But the harvest will be nice however. And pollinator will be full of trichomes. There is 17 buds.

Pics:

gallery_3562_3666_263387.jpg

gallery_3562_3666_256611.jpg

gallery_3562_3666_238094.jpg

gallery_3562_3666_166715.jpggallery_3562_3666_211024.jpg

Leafier but potency will be higher than under HPS thanks to the blue 450nm leds. The smell is stronger than under HPS, frutier, and I can smell the GG drying in all my house. The same plant under HPS had a soft fruit/orange smell, these smells stronger.

It was the case too with my last grow under leds, NYCDxJilly Bean, the smell was so strong that it was very dangerous to travel with some buds, even with only 1g.

63W powa ;)

and dwarf tomatoes under same spectrum, 48W for 2 plants, each plant is around 30cm x 35cm (Lxh)

gallery_3562_3666_87912.jpg

gallery_3562_3666_150304.jpg

the bigger fruits (still green) are around 3cm diameter

Cheers
