Hash Mead

Recommended Posts

Hey folks! It's been a while. Hope everyone is doing well.

I thought I'd share my Hash Mead adventure.

Some of you may or may not know that I am a professional beekeeper. I don't engage in commercial beekeeping, use nasty chemicals or treat the bees harshly. Anyhoo...I've been experimenting with different meads and one day it hit me - WEED MEAD!!!

This is for 1 gallon. Adjust as needed:

1. Find a local beekeeper and buy 3 lbs of honey from him/her. Don't buy the crap in the stores...it's garbage.

2. Put honey in a pot and heat to about 180 - 190 degrees F.

3. Add 8 - 12 grams of hash.

4. Let go for 4 - 8 hours. Stirring occasionally and making sure it doesn't burn.

5. Once it's done let it cool.

6. Bring a little under 1 gallon of water to about 80 - 95 degrees.

7. Add hash infused honey and mix until dissolved. This is your "must".

8. Prep your yeast and then pitch it in the must (water/hash/honey mixture).

9. Stir.

10. Pour in a gallon jug and add your lock.

11. Set aside and watch it work it's magic.

12. After the primary fermentation rack the gallon jug and let sit for 4 - 6 months.

13. Drink and enjoy.

It tastes amazing. It's surprisingly good. You can also substitute bud for the hash if you want but you'll end up with a slightly greener taste. The hash gives it an amazing terpene spice taste that is outstanding.

This is a super basic recipe so feel free to modify it as you see fit.

PS - You can also just make the hash infused honey part which is equally amazing on it's own. I put mine in tea.

Two things I love in this world, Hashish and Mead, now a combo! Million thanks for the recipe!

No need for yeast or bacteria control, just follow your recipe, right? Could I use a bucket for beer making with a co2 lock and all?

Yes, you should make sure everything is sanitized.

I don't bother with Camden tabs. I give everything a good solid wash w/ hot water and bleach solution. Just a couple small drops is all you need.

A bucket w/ C02 lock works just fine.
