hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 Time to get this diary started. I use the same gear every grow, I start them in my small veg tent them move them to flower tent as soon as it's empty. The big tent is 1.2m, I got a T5 light in the veg tent. I can run 400w or 600w hps in the big tent I switch between NFT and DWC, This grow is a DWC run. I've got a rough idea how I would like this to go but I'm flexible. I use GHE 3 part nutrients and silica. I'll get on with some pictures 14June Got them started 18th next stage 24th move them into the mini (diy) dwc buckets. (I have not fed them anything yet) I forgot to say I ph water to 6 and top feed by hand for 1st 2 or 3 weeks It can take some time for the roots to show out of the net pot 4th July This is what I was waiting for, nice roots in the water now I can start feeding them EC 0.2 Oaxacan and purple storm have settled in well, Aztec rain not so well. You can see Aztec rain is not so happy, I re-use my clay pebbles for years, I did wash them but I can see salts on them. maybe this is her problem? Oaxacan looks happy And Purple Storm This is the stage they are at now. I'm not intending to do a scrog just a straight up grow, but you never know what can happen??? I'll try not to let them get too big. if you seen my grows you know I like a big girl but not always Thanks for your advice @E$kob@r I'm sure your help will be invaluable.
e$kob@r 2,636 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 I think the Aztec Rain will make up and become even the biggest. Such plants i flood allready with total ec of 1.4 How big u want them to come?
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 I know I've got about 5 foot in height I can use but only 3 foot in the veg tent, I don't think I've ever started flowering a plant under a foot or two. That's even before I started one plant scrog growing. The plan is to start flowering in the veg tent then move them over into bigger tubs when the flower tent is empty. I got 5 weeks to go, I don't want to run out of room in that small tent, so keep them on a starvation diet for two more weeks then feed and flip them. I think I should be ok for height in the veg tent if I do this. How big do you think they will get in 5 weeks if I flip them to 12/12 now?
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 I forgot to say thanks for asking I also forgot you do nice big mapeto grows. I almost switched but my GF put her foot down how many hydro systems do I need. I got 3 I hope i'm not getting you confused with someone else

hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks @barney & @JetDro, I've been watching your grow barney, it's given me encouragement to see how your plants developed thanks for keeping your diary. I been talking to hygrohybrid and he's telling me don't worry, he's not met a plant yet he could not bend to his will..lol...l should be the same I don't mind a struggle, as long as I can tame them in the end. I just need to play it by ear and see how things go???

hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 11, 2015 @Sativani P.s = Post script, DWC= Deep Water Culture, NFT= Nutrient Film Technique. RDWC is just Recirculating DWC hehehe

Peace oh, wich system makes the least sound? Edited July 11, 2015 by Sativani
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 12, 2015 Thanks very much @Sativani, Hygro's last grow 6 plants he's got 3000+g, hells bells that guy can grow. I don't think i'm there just yet ...lol... By far the quietest system is the NFT, I got to turn the pumps off at night running dwc, They are supposed to be on 24/7 but the vibrations from them big air pumps is hard to muffle. the water pump makes almost no sound at all

DreamOfGreen 1,916 Report post Posted July 12, 2015 nice. looking frwrd to seeing what esko's new gear brings to the table. i've got two chocolate rain going into flower in the next week. it's very intriguing that a land race like oaxacan has such a short flowering time. if you can hang your air pump so it's not touching anything it may reduce some of the noise. if the pump itself is too noisy i'd get a different pump or build a insulated cab to house it. i had a commercial style pump for a short time before i got rid of it and went with using several smaller pumps that are all much more quite. the best one i have is a tetra whisper ap300. it doesn't list how much air volume it pumps, only that it's good for deep water applications down to 8 feet. it puts out a lot of air and is extremely quite. and has a lifetime guarantee. i'm surprised with esko recommending such a high ec. hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 12, 2015 Thanks guys, got no "likes" for today @DreamOfGreen. Hey man, good to see you, Chocolate Rain is real nice smoke thanks for the info on the pumps. I'll try to rig something up I'm in no hurry to get them plants big. I'll keep the ec low as I can get away with then feed and flower them. I think mapeto you can maybe go higher on the ec? e$kob@r 2,636 Report post Posted July 12, 2015 DreamOfGreen, the first flooding water is 1.1 ec. Every 3 days, after that first, i give = tapwater + 1.0 ec veg or flowering nutes. That don't change till harvest. That is a flat shedule on mapito. A to low ec can trigger to much stretch wich later on influences the bud density. That is the case on mapito flooding system, i dont know about dwc. Honestly, i dont like hydroton, those clay balls. Specially not reusing them. Put rockwool in those baskets and the speed will increase to maximum. To much oxygen is not good, the balance is ok in rockwool.
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 I could not even spell mapito never mind grow with it...lol...I never thought about underfeeding causing stretch. I'm an old hand with nft but dwc is still pretty new to me. This will only be 4th-5th time maybe. I use my ec meter to get a balance where the plant drinks and uses the nutrients at the same rate. This is the point I stop pushing up the ec and dial that in for the rest of the grow. I hope this makes sense in some sense. I hear what your saying about the pebbles mate and it makes sense, I'll try with just rockwool next time I run dwc washing them pebbles is a job I could live without
barney 4,929 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 How is the Aztec Rain doing ? Getting settled in there now ?
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 Thanks for asking @barney this gives me an excuse to do an update The roots are just getting going in the Aztec Rain The Oaxacan roots are looking fine So are the Purple Storms roots. when I checked the EC it was at zero, second feed I gave them EC 0.4. next time I look if EC is down I'll feed EC 0.6 keep doing this until I hit sweet spot Everything is ticking along nice at the moment, at least 2 or 3 more weeks veg. They should have some big roots buy that time and hopefully? still be under control up top topping, LST and monster cropping could be handy I forgo to say they are 17cm tall;)
DreamOfGreen 1,916 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 your aztec girl just wants to take her own sweet time. i'm cheering for her growth to explode and catch up some to the others. when i mentally picture what a mex. land race should look like it's 180 degrees from the oaxacan. her indica dominance is more what i would expect something that originates farther from the equator, like the himalaya's or afgainistan, to look like. very interesting.
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 15, 2015 hehehe...I did that when I grew soliloqueen. I was expecting her to look very sativa but she looked exactly like the jackberry I had just grown. ..It freaked me out, I was even questioning if prof p knew what he was selling...SORRY PROF P..that was before I knew how well she would turn out (she was a cracker). It was well into the flower before she really showed her true nature
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 update time Day 25 in the mini-dwc still only on EC.0.4 I change water every few days as it's been hot here. They seem happy enough The Oaxaca started to show her legs so he's been soft topped. The purple storm has a closer internode space so she might not need topping and Aztec still has a bit of catching up to do but she's looking better A few pics will give you a better idea This is how they look now Gently snap of top The bit I snapped off top 4 weeks until the flower tent is empty, I should be ok
e$kob@r 2,636 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 4 weeks? wow ... Yes, u will be ok, but the plants? U know the story of Jack and the beanstalk? Interesting to follow up. This has not being done before. We flower them straight from seed or clone size. Plants look more healthy then last update. Houston, we have a lifftof.
hybridhygro 1,940 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 Thanks eskobar, Call me Jack....lol...I'm getting nervous. After that 30day stretch sugar punch had i'm pretty much ready for anything it can throw at me...lol... I hope I don't mess this one up. I'll do my best and see what happens
DreamOfGreen 1,916 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 four more weeks of veg for these? good thing the best girls love to be bent over, tied down, pinched and twisted. and it's better to deal with an over abundance of growth to trim and train than to waste light and space. imho. i went a couple weeks longer on veging the four girls i'm starting in flower today than i had intended. the biggest of them is a chocolate rain that's 43" (110 cm) from top of soil to plant tip. i don't know why she's so much bigger than her sister is, about 20%, but i dig it. she'll be trained into a complete circle by time stretch is done. https://www.opengrow.com/gallery/image/158393-100-5397/
ken erbis 1,348 Report post Posted July 20, 2015 I am finding with the purple storm that when grown as single cola plant the stretch is more than if picked out to form multiple colas. I would say I think you may be in for a bit of stretch with these, especially in hydro, but Im sure you'll manage. Maybe invest in a ladder and chainsaw.
