Weedguru

First time grower reporting for duty!

Recommended Posts

Hi OG,

Currently making preparations for my first grow, decided to join some forums to check what people think of the plans I have, and asking some advice where I'm still unsure about things (main thing being the soil, no Fox Farm to be had here in BE/NL, and that seems to be what every single grower online seems to recommend and have info on).

I'm really planning to keep a good grow diary, I've got a nice camera, able to take preetty nice shots, so wanna put it to some good use and try to capture a timelapse of the grow. If not with my main camera, at least with a cheap gopro or something (with the occasional HD close up porn; I've got a Canon prime macro lens laying around that sees way too little use, I wanna change that).

So yeah, I welcome everyone to give some last tips and tricks, made a topic on what I'm planning to buy here. (Especially feel free to lemme know what soil you use and what your thoughts are on how I should go about this, 3 weeks for seedling in soil X (with/without nutes?), then switch to soil X (with nutes) after 3 weeks). I read something different on every tutorial, and most grow diaries I've read myself either don't specify which soil they use, or use Fox Farm which isn't available here)

Welcome to the boards, Weedguru! Writing a good grow diary definitely takes some patience, but in the end I think it helps not only those following along, but also yourself when you go back to check the notes.

Once again WELCOME!

Hullo and welcome...have u looked at sannies shop? And the 4 step organics, or the guanokalong soil, or both ;) its a nice basic start that you can start tweaking as u become more savvy. Good luck and remember.....too much love will kill your plants! Try not to over feed/over water. Let em do their own thing an watch em' grow happy.

Hope it goes well buddy. .V.

Oh yeh, a mistake i made was vegging in smallish pots then putting straight to 12/12 into large pots, which they dont fill.

Make sure to do a coupla week veg in the larger pots first so they can root down in it. Happy growin. :P

Welcome to the forum. I too would check out a few things in Sannie's shop. http://www.sanniesshop.com/index.php?desktop&dispatch=index.index Great prices and even better genetics. Grow what you want and enjoy your cannabis. It's the IMHO best plant on the earth.

Welcome Weedguru! Google Subcool's Super Soil. It'll show you how to build your own, and will get you pointed in the right direction. If you don't already have an awesome compost pile just buy that and build in all of the other stuff. You'll be far ahead of others and your plants will sing praise to you. :tu :tu

Best of luck. Also, all of what others said about Sannie's Shop. You're in the right place!

In Europe look out for PLAGRON and BIOBIZZ peat base 'soilless' soil!.... Names like allmix and batmix or royal mix indicate rich soils with nutrients added in the form of worm castings amd bat guano.... For minimal extra feeding look for one of these. You can also buy good quality pure worm castings from Plagron to mix in or top dress the soil. It is possible to skip bottled nutrients altogether using worm casting (bat guano usually higher P content for fruit/ flower growth can be added too). I advise a bit of extra perlite to keep air in the rootzone, especially useful if there is chance of overwatering.

The water quality can be poor in BE and NL so check that out. You will likely need pH down if the water is very hard as carbonates can build up over time and reduce nutrient uptake. Collecting rain water is great if u can.

I saw a large autoflower yield over 100g dried and trimmed from a bag of Plagron Batmix stood upright with seedling shoved into a small hole at the top (grow bag style). The plant was very green and healthy all the way to harvest. No extra nutrients were added (except pH down which provided a bit of Phosphorous)

While yr first grow is ongoing you will have time to research super soil and the principles of composts etc. for a first run I would stick to a ready mixed soil (soilless) medium from a tried n tested brand. If you have several plants you could experiment by addin worm casts and or guano to some plants and not others then make notes as to any deficiencies or benefits in each case.

Batmix for the win. (bigger pots = bigger root system)

What's up weedguru, good luck man.

As far as soil, try and keep it simple (the mix) and dial it in with nutes for control.

I have tried to make super soil recipes in the past, and for a new indoor grower, not the most optimal IMO.

Personally i'd go coco/soil or hydro for smaller indoor grows. Again, I assume you're growing indoors... not sure.

Yep, now that I'm getting more into it that is good advice. Start with a light mix that won't burn POT seedlings. They're sensitive to nutes early on. The plants will grow with practically nothing but you will learn how to slowly incorporate more balance as you go.

the guys and gals in this forum have already done all the homework and their pics speak volumes. I'm learning to keep my mouth shut more and more and read and listen instead, cause I'm finding out I know way less than I thought I did, at least about correct methods, and efficient methods. No need to make it hard, just correct.

Good luck man.
