Herijuana, Sugar Punch, Madberry - RDWC vs Coco - LED vs HPS - Perpetual

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I recently ordered some seeds from Sannie and decided to sign up here and share my grow. I figured no better place than here if I need help pheno hunting or with questions concerning these strains. This is my 3rd grow and my first run from seed. It's been exciting so far.

I'm running 2 rooms. 1 is a 4x8 scrog under 2 Fluence Spydr Xplus 650w LEDs in RDWC I built to mimic the undercurrent system. I love the design of these LEDs as they cover my canopy completely. With Co2 they sit 6" from tops without light or heat burn. The 2nd room is a 4x7 under a Gavita E6/750 pushed to 800watts on a light rail in 5 gallon pots of coco. With the mover I've been keeping the light about 1.5-2 feet over the canopy without issue. Also a clone/mother cabinet under florescents. Co2 in both flower rooms in a controlled, sealed environment.

The systems:

RDWC is 13 gallon buckets fed by 3" pvc lines, 3/4" return line to a 1200 gph pump through a 1/2 HP chiller keeping my nutes at 65-68 degrees throughout the grow. 2 air pumps keep my dissolved oxygen about as high as possible.

The coco is in 5 gallon fabric pots. I used DNA coco w cork and added perlite for extra drainage as by the end of flower I will be watering 3 times a day. I may build a drip system, but for now I'm hand watering 5 gallons am/pm twice daily. Drain to waste of course.

Nutes:

Like I said this is my 3rd grow ever. First grow I ran Canna in coco with some deficiencies, hermies, etc. This was my crash course in coco grow. 2nd grow I ran Nectar for the Gods line in coco for a more organic type of grow. Results were good on both grows, but the 2nd seemed tastier with less yield. The 2nd run I also had deficiencies, but nothing too bad. The Herculean Harvest just seemed to be clogging the coco at the end. Now, on to this grow...

I'm running the full line of Cultured Solutions in the RDWC and the Coco following their feeding schedule. In coco I'm running 3/4 strength. In RDWC I'm very low strength. Anytime I exceed 220ppm I see nute burn. I supplement with 1/4-1/2 strength CaliMagic every feeding. In the coco during flower I've been also supplementing with leftover NTFG nutes like Yucca Extract, Athenas Aminas, Bloom Chaos, and their Guano tea. For PH up I generally use Potassium Silicate and for Down I've been using NTFG Hades Down. At the first sign of PK deficiencies I started adding 1/2 strength Beastie Bloomz (0-50-30). I'm in week 4 and haven't had any real deficiency issues. I guess I finally learned how to "listen" to what the plants are telling me and showing me early on. I will most likely stick with this lineup in the future, but won't know until they've cured and been smoked.

Environment: 6000BTU window AC unit, 50 pint dehumidifier, 2 vortex fans and carbon filter, and Co2 tank

Strains: I'm running Herijuana IBL, Fem Sugar Punch, Fem Madberry

That's about it for now. I've gotta get some pics up in the next post

In the beginning...I planted the seeds according to Sannies instructions. Only a couple didn't pop. No biggie there.

Below they've been topped and are looking great!

Here they are nearing the end of Veg. That beast in the back corner is a Madberry gone wild. Her vigor is insane. I'm getting ready to flip and watch for males in the Heri.

Below I have Heri on the left and Sugar Punch and 1 Madberry on the right tray.

I'm posting so much to get up to where I'm at currently. I'm in week 4 of flower so....more to come!

2 of the Herijuana turned out to be male...not bad. Unfortunately 1 was in my RDWC so I threw a clone from the vigorous madberry in for shits and giggles. Now it looks like David vs Goliath in comparison. Below is the male I pulled and his roots.

And his replacement here...Lol

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to trying both out. Any particular phenos/traits to watch for?

I took 4 clones from every plant right before flip to bloom. for cloning I used clonex gel and then dipped the cuts in great white. For solution I mixed filtered water with a very weak dose of NTFG Poseidonzime and Canna's Rhizo. I had about 95% success at my first attempt cloning so I'm feeling pretty good about it. Roots in 7 days.

Next I'll be choosing the mothers.

I'm not sure how far in to flower these photos were taken...approx 1 week from 12/12 switch. Madberry on the left half. It appears I have 3 different phenos. The 2 in front seem identical. Then there's the beast in back on the left and a much slower, brighter yellowish pheno on the back right. Under the light on the right I have 3 Herijauan and the 1 clone of the madberry. Everything gets topped, super cropped, LST, and defoliation as needed.

The purple/pink/gold pheno of Madberry I have is pretty dank.

Probably others could tell you more. I had 3 Sugar Punch all different phenos, but 2 were special.

Gorgeous ladies in you're room and nice white roots. :)

Here they are Week 4 Day 2 of flower. I'm so happy to have finally got things dialed in. I did have a power outage during lights on for about 2 hours yesterday. Hoping that won't have any ill affects on the ladies. Everything in the RDWC held up fine without power. I was worried about the roots drowning, but they didn't show any signs of stress once power was back up.

No scrog in the coco, but I've been tying everything back to even out the canopy. Everything is just sooooo damn green!!! Getting frosty in there too!

This is the base of the vigorous madberry. Last night I noticed from the angle I was standing at it looked like a tree person. Maybe it's just the doob I smoked before hand lol...

Looking super nice in there!

Been eyeing the fluence for a bit now. Might just make my own with cobs but very excited to see how your grow finishes and how you like them.

The best pheno of SP for me was the all green pheno. Smelled of refined sugar but faint. High was way up there :-) , all of pheno were nice. Colored plants were nice to look at and smell amazing. High was a 8 but that green pheno had it beat easy.

Would say good luck but seems you have skill on your side!

Thanks for the kind words. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I'm a sponge when it comes to something I'm passionate about! I'm really impressed with the fluence, but this is the first time I'll have something to compare it to first hand...even though the mediums are different. Winter months I only ran ventilation my first run and didn't have any heat issues. They're nice on the electric bill as well. Both lights and fans only raised my electric bill by $100 monthly. I'll be watching for the green SP.

Since I don't have anything else to share from my current grow here's a little bud porn around harvest time my very first grow. They were all from clone, but I only knew what 2 of the 4 strains were. I was running coco with canna nutes and lots of deficiencies caused by my lack of knowledge at the time. Pulled a little over 3lbs from those 2 lights. The strains I was certain of were master kush and critical kush. I had another that was fluffy and covered in red pistils, but hermied like crazy (my fault). The other 1 I had in there appeared sativa dominant and smelled and tasted exactly like pink grapefruit. I used the hermie to pollinate a branch and got about 15 seeds from it. I don't know if that's a good idea or if the hermie traits will pass on. I've just started reading up on the art of breeding, genetics, back crossing etc. Hopefully I'll have the time and space to create my own strain one day.

Does anyone know if red stems on the fans is common with any of these strains? I'm leaning towards P deficiency, but I've been giving them plenty of PK and maintaining ph around 5.9-6.2. Middle of week 4 flower. No other signs of deficiency as of yet. They may just be really hungry at this point.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey man,

Time for a UPS for those pumps huh? I have had a fuse blow a couple of times over the past few days, and while this only lasts a minute or so it made me think about what would happen if the plants had no air for 12-24 hrs. The pumps do not seem to need that much juice, a 850va ups should do the job nicely i think:

https://www.amazon.c...words=750va+ups

Thoughts?

And as far as nutes goes, I am having great luck in DWC with the two part I am using, i wont advertise on your thread though, if interested hit me up or check my grow!

Could be P, MG, temp. If the stems are solid color always this is more indicative of trait. Nutritional and environmental will tend to show on stems in ways where it is part normal an part colored and unstable.

With full spectrum plants will typically use more MG, probably P too to an extent but MG addition often corrects.

Time for an update...life got crazy so I haven't had any time until now. Right before thanksgiving my girl ended up in the ER. Her cancer got worse...they had to do surgery immediately and detach the colon. Surgery went well and she's home recovering. We will be starting a modified Simpson oil regimen in a few weeks to supplement chemo which is why I work so hard at this. Her oncologist is on board as well. Hopefully they healing powers of cannabis will help her improve...and beat cancer.

Hempyfan, it turned out to be P deficiency. Those girls went from burning at 300ppm to sucking up all the P and demanding more. I've been sitting at 750-800 ppm now and all has been corrected.

Once I confirmed the nute issue was corrected I cleaned up the canopy of most of the damaged leaves and cleared some room to get those lower buds going.

Madberry, I see 3 distinct phenos now. Front and back left seem to be very similar with the back one showing the most vigor. The front/back right are both different. Of the 4 I've narrowed down selection for mothers to be either the vigorous or the one on the front right which is full of rock hard buds that smell fantastic!

Vigorous madberry in front. The yellowing in the pic is from the Phosphorous def.

Here's the one I think I'll keep for a mom with the dense buds.

And here is the Herijuana...they all seem pretty similar so I'm undecided as far as choosing a mom goes.

And here are the Herijuana and Sugar Punch in coco. I'm impressed with the light mover! It's covering a 3x7 area approx with one Gavita at 800w! The only thing I've changed as far as nutes is the addition of some Nectar for the Gods I had laying around. These are even frostier than the girls under the LEDs.

Herijuana is tray on left and Sugar punch in tray on right with a madberry tucked in back right corner.

Superb!!! Are you sure you haven't been growing 20 years? Super job!

Thanks Argo! This is definitely my best grow yet, but the first 2 were nothing but panic. I enjoy every minute of it! I cant wait to do a smoke report on these.

Took a few more photos with the HPS off...

And here are the clones from the seedlings under 2 T5HO fixtures before I put them into flower. The tall gangly groups in the small pots are the vigorous madberry waiting to go into flower. I've kept them in smaller pots to stunt the growth a bit. I'm sure they're heavily root bound by now. Trying to hold out a couple more weeks. I may top them again to keep them manageable. The others will be narrowed down as I choose moms. I should be able to get a decent harvest every month if all goes smoothly.

gallery_17709_5765_623670.jpg

These are the rest of those same clones, but re-potted a week and a half ago and put into the flower room 2 days ago. Everything that was topped has been tied down. I super cropped the rest and will be trimming the bottoms over the next few days.

Back row - Madberry(#2). Front row (L-R) 2 sugar punch(#2), 2 madberry (#4) Middle Row - Sugar Punch #1, Herijuana, 2 Madberry #2
