Looks like wads of granulated rockwool--very nice!

Meanwhile, here in North America, Growpito brand mapito has gone out of business (a short life--the product was overpriced).

I was thinking of buying Grodan Grow-Chunks (3/4 inch) and/or Grow-Cubes (1/4 inch).
http://grodan101.com...out-grow-chunks
http://grodan101.com...oose/grow-cubes

Today I bought 150 liters of loose Grow-Cubes in a box for $77 + tax at a hydro store near Seattle. I was driving by and wondered if they carried this product. Walk in the front door and there is a big stack of these Grodan boxes. People shopping here know what they're doing, for the most part.

The "cubes" are about 3/8 x 1/2 inch. Grodan info site says these are equivalent to a half-and-half mix of absorbant and nonabsorbant granulated rockwool. I was trying to find a source for the reticulated foam used in Growpito but gave up. I'll try the grow-cubes by themselves in five gallon totes.

Current grow in Growpito; nitrogen claw when I went from 1.43 mS to 1.48 mS, starting with 0.185 mS tap water. Maxibloom dry nute. I cycled today (three day cycles) at 1.38 mS and then will return to 1.43 mS. pH=5.6

What i am using now is recycled big blocks from my last grow that i tore up into particles and mixed with rfx-1. I have tried it with one 11 liter pot when i ran out of rfx-1 and didn't notice any difference.

The only difference is the price.

I'm using 5 grams per gallon of MaxiBloom with a gram of epsom salts and some fulvic acid (Ful-Power). Starting with 0.18mS tap water, this gives me a total of 1.5mS, adjusted to pH 5.6.

On the topic of DIY mapito, I've ordered a 0.75 inch thick sheet of 10 PPI reticulated foam: https://www.usplasti...x?itemid=105399

I've never felt the need for P-K bloom boosters. The guy I used to buy Canna coco from would do a real song-and-dance touting the Canna line of nutes. Considering the difference in price, I was never tempted to give up my salts.

I did try 2 times growing with just base but seemed to lack the weight and budd were smaller than usual so i started using additives again.
@ledfoot this time i tried just the cubes and it was great now ill try mixing 5-10% foam or polly balls and will see whats the difference.

Lol i know im kind of tired of paying for water...thats why im asking about salts to learn more and i know i can get the results with less money spent.

I was looking at agrocultural websites in my country but dont know really what to look for.

Any links with a good read about salts?or any suggestions about products in europe would be appreciated.

@mink most salt grower use Yara products in NL.
kristalon yellow (+Mg), brown and Calcinit

@Hamme Hydro... most of my crates I have foam in pito as well (1:1:1 in liters..grodan granulate: foam: polyester balls,.... this mix was made some years ago)... and I can tell u... the mix working well without foam as well.. because the foam also works just like a "placeholder".... with the amount of Pu balls u can dial in how much water the mix should hold..

when u restart a grow and u pic out big roots... u always loose some foam...
if u do some rounds... after the years u will see u picked out most of the foam with the old roots anyway... so nowadays i dont put any foam in the mix.

In usa these sites I like for salts
  • This is my favorite site for individual salts and their combo packs are great. If you go this way, forget almost all you know from grow shop and forum junkies. Do not add anything extra thinking you are being smart. Just follow the simple and you will get what you want better than you believe now.
  • This is a great site and by chance I had run and talk with a guy highly associated with them and helped me with gaining a good understanding of the difference between fertilizer grades. http://www.mbferts.c...ilizers_c47.htm
  • This is a great site but can only get bigger sizes. Is cheap for what you buy and will last a life time for almost all. You will need to know what you want though and is why this is in the second part.
  • As a product line Veg & Bloom nutrients. (the V&B and Shine are a must together and I recommend adding in the foliar treatment or a similar foliar if wanted and same with microbes. I do like V&B salts as well and you can get in some good grow shops. https://hydroponic-research.com/
  • I swear the shine has ground up unicorn in it! You can get the same affect as using the two options above but this is a user friendly system that impressed me greatly from a ready to use product line.
  • I have tested their whole line for organic and tap water except for using their foliar as I make my own and I ensured I had similar in my foliar. I did like their microbes but others felt they were no different than other microbe choices and in fact some preferred other types due to cost. If you have a good microbe you like, no reason to change but their microbes did work as advertised.

Hey all,

@hamme i think that you can get foam in larger hardwear stores or pet shops(reticulated PU foam for aqarium filters).
But as Hidronesia said it might not be needed just the PE balls.
I did one grow with just chunks nothing else and it was great.

@Mink u can make as strong as u want...I just put some cups to my 10 l bottle...it doesnt count... in hidro we count EC.. so when I prepare the tank... I add 2.0 ec from this and 1.0 ec from that.. etc..

read the products description to understand the ratios! and understand what N, P, K do with ur crop...
certain strains need different diet.... different climate the same strain will use different nutes... So it is the GAME... to understand and change when needed:) If u grow the same cut as me..PM me and will try to help u more!

Please..
read about Mr1, (yellow+Mg), Mr2 (brown), Calgreen (calcinit)... in this link
http://www.metrop.ne...fertilizer.html

the 10% money u wont spend in the Growshop... for nutes... maybe one time u can help for somebody:) who dosent expect for ur help... TRY IT hahha

KArma UPPP

happy growing!!!
