Shrinking Is Not Easy

Recommended Posts

Last July I had to move from a nice two bedroom with a laundry hookup in just the right place to a cozy one bedroom leaving me only a closet to work in.

So I got the hacksaw and duct tape out and re sized a tent to fit the closet, and ran some shop lights in it. The Classic Closet Setup from the 70s.

So after harvesting what was the smallest plants I have ever seen, I broke down and punched a vent in the closet ceiling and got out one of my 600W HPS cooltube sets.

Now were cookin with Fire!

These are (left to right) an original Sugarpunch, green short stubby one, and the others are all phenos of something I made with KillingFields/BlueHammer // ChocRain that I call Fucktopia. Three purple ones, a violet one, and the one green one that has a flavor so good I can taste it in my sleep.

Yea I am running a 600 in the Closet.

Wow, watch that heat!

Good Luck!

Remember it is about the temperature and humidity than it is the power of the light.

What is your current temperature and humidity at canopy and mid plant.

Always thinking environment first.

Similar to my space, and I ran a 600 for years, and heat sucks. I was fine in the winter, but a pain in the ass as soon as it turned 80, and I used every trick in the book, including hot spot deflectors, which work quite well. But after swapping runs 3-4 times, to compare my 600 to my new LED's, I see zero reason now to return the the 600. No heat or exhaust to worry with, and my buds are danker. Yields about the same, flowering time is equal or a bit faster under LEDs. Works great in small spaces, too, because the right led really cuts down the stretch. I run a Platinum LED 450 and a 600, pay for themselves easy in 6 month to a year, as utility bills are 30 bucks less, and I don't have to buy all that extra cooling stuff, OR HPS bulbs.

Best of luck to you!

That, is very well said. More horsepower isn't the answer to great buds!! I recall all the grow blogs ten years ago when no one had ever heard of "light burn". Lol.

Oh I have a portable air conditioner and a 6 in centrifugal fan running heat out into the attic.

It's leftover from running this 5 by 5 tent. I had two 600s and a 400 mh running in there.

This one ran around 75F but RH was really low the whole time.

Right now the closet is running 70F 30% constant even without the AC on.

Ill run this way all winter and buy an LED for summer.

I had a grow under t-12s once. Yield was 0.13 grams/watt, once I was dialed in.

Yeah, that's how i would approach LED. Summer use only.

I live in the mountains of new england.

Summers are hot as balls and winter are cold as also balls.

Same weather here I live on the other northern corner.

For now I only have the 600s and shop lights handy, so the best choice is obvious.

When it warms up I think about 300W of full spec LED of some sort.

At least you're growing. You think like I do.

"How can I get away with something in this space?"

Same here with the temps. My grow starting Jan 1st, was perfect with heat and humidity. No way I could do a grow in that same room in summer.

It's too bad more of us can't use that giant ball of fusion energy in the sky, when it's too hot to grow inside.

In MI, you have to grow in a locked, secure facility or location. I wonder if a lock on a fenced area would qualify?

Yes it does.

I was growing in the back yard until the local highschool boys sniffed it out. :(

So, I purchased a 5' x 5' x 10' dog kennel, placed it on my raised lanai and slapped a roof and a padlock on it.

Here's the assembly in the yard before I moved it to the lanai.

(It really sucks trying to post pictures here).

Then gave my MonGrel a job guarding it.

Works a treat!

In Maine, for rec you can't be able to see it from the road or the air.

Basically You have to have a green house.

For med, a fence with a lock will do fine.

"For med, a fence with a lock will do fine."

Tried that.

They ignored the lock, jumped the fence, and left with half my crop!

That's enough to piss off the pope. :)

I remember my first closet grow damn small but

Necessity is the mother of invention

I had a 48 inch x 32 in space but it was 72 in tall scrogged the hell out of it after I got it dialed in I was able to get 12 to 15 jars out of it

Also used a smal cabinet in the garage 24 x 36 by 36 hi

Ran 30 clones in 1/2 gal pots what a mess but it worked

Good luck

You'll do just fine bro

Very nice. I haven't grown out a KF yet. I had problems with the 2 seeds I popped. One died at an inch tall, and the other was a 1st time hydro experiment that I didn't pay enough attention to. Still got 3 beans left gues I need to put them in the dirt with the next grow.

I finally have a chance to make a buy from Sannies and I've decided that is one I'm getting. If I can only get one, that one seems to be a good one. Gotta grab me some NAW too.
