What LED grow light you use

Hey baq, on a visit to the local grow shop a while back, I had the kid flip one on. It was instantly so freaking bright, I found myself, backing out of the huge light foot print.

I did NOT have my light meter on hand, but you can count tiles on the floor, and each was 12"x12" I counted 8-9 tiles back from the edge of the light assembly. It was an experience, to see that shine man!!

They are on my list of must have equipment, as I rid myself, of magnetic/digital ballast.

So bare bones, and utilitarian, kind of like my PS250, a rugged ugly thing most would walk past, however for me, I love oddities.

I found the kit on sale and with the discounts it was $657.40, I have been looking at it for a while so I jumped on it. The less powerful 550 is $899, so that's a hell of a deal. We'll all see how it works starting in April!

Best,

Baq

You will love photographing the storms, lightning flashing across the entire mountain range. I'll have to come out and visit you and Mr G, you should be about an hour or so drive from him.

That would be really cool for some of us to get together, we would probably smoke until we couldn't walk!:j

I have been running a Mars II 900 with a ViparSpectra 300 in a 4 x 4 tent. I would recommend an LED with a rating of 600-900w for a 4 x 2. Don't worry, it won't be too much. I've run 1,600 watts of HID in my 4 x 4, and I only have a 4" fan!

You will be killing it with 900w (rated, not actual draw) of LED in your 4 x 2.

Side note: Check this sale on COBs. Super cheap DIY option of you have a source for aluminum remnants in your area. I have ten on their way.

I've never run or owned anything light-wise, but I'm seriously considering the HLG550 V2, they look pretty amazing from my limited research and knowledge, and I can get 'em down here now too. Just can't figure out if it would work better in a 4x4 or 5x5 tent. Decisions.

Go for it, they are amazing, I will never look at pink light again. I picked up the HLG 600H V2 kit. The 550 would work in either size, but I personally would go with the 4X4. You will probably need to use CO2 to get the maximum results from the 550, it's that intense.

Been using the Budget LED Series 1 dual board light, and they just came out with their Series 2 with Samsung LB301M Diodes and 660nm IR Diodes!!

their site is https://www.budgetgrowlights.com/

they are similar to the HLG and Blackdogs but at 30% less the price.

when i saw it was easy to put together i was happy. i'm not trying to add too much to my brain space ha.

i can imagine these cheapos will be my style. still have to use my 600 digi and 250 mh as neither have much wear/use on them smdh.

i checked this too  https://www.viparspectra.com/goods.php?id=98

led's will help keep my use in check and not raise eyebrows. i never see the bill = utilities included but he gets paid enough to cover it .

anyone want to show those board in ur grow and especially end results of the buds. what's the difference in bag appeal if any and size of the nugs ? thx

Hey LED guys, I have a weird question.

Just threw out my old vacuum tubes (HPS gear) and now have a nice set of LED lights.

Now flowering under a Nextlight, and something real strange happened to one of my old plants.

I've flowered this plant out several times under HPS and it was green.

  1395090894_schrodingerscatnip.thumb.jpg.99df22908cb2ebf6ecd999304c4e21f7.jpg

Under LED and its flowering out purple.

The red in the petioles is on me, I couldn't find the OBC #3 mix so I used #1 mix.  It's more potted plant than planter mix so it has a hard time holding onto and letting go of water at the same time like we all demand of our soil mix.

I am on about the buds themselves, this was a green plant up till now.

Has anyone else ever seen that?

Scone, I’ve also noticed LEDs will bring out colors that HID won’t. I think it depends on the strain.... it’s the additional UV light?

Wow, that is quite interesting. I know with the Octopots, they stay green most the time, hard to get color.

My Chucky' Bride is at almost 10 weeks now, JUST NOW starting to lose a TINY bit of color, the Octo's feed them all too well, probably a good thing . I only get color's or "fade" in the winter time  when temps are below 60 degree's at night time.

Yep, I"ve only had a few change color for me, one is Santeros g13/bw. Duchess did one time, Barbasol was going to but had to pull her due to seeds. They all had to go a bit longer, think only why I saw any color.

I do swim in the berry end of the gene pool allot.

I blame Killing Fields, the purple var tastes good which is hard to find in purples.

The plant is made from that and a cross of Choco Rain and Blue Hammer that were green with some red highlights so it is probably on the verge of going purple.

But this is dramatic, it went from totally green to reddish black.

Also while we are talking about led, this one is a 200 watt mini Nextlight, it was supposed to replace a 400 and its easily outperforming a 600.

The difference between LED and HPS in one picture

hotsauce.thumb.jpg.2f83917207e92d2ed752860b8de861a4.jpg

I stole this from migro's led site, but it does really show the problem with HPS.

In the LED tent on the left, the heat is all up top where it can be vented out without much effort, the rest of the tent, most importantly the part where the plants are, is a nice uniform temp.

On the right is an HPS, and while they are making roughly the same amount of heat the bulk of that heat is infrared radiating off the poor plants cooking in the tent.

This is Exactly what I noticed when I switched off to LED.

Now I have to stop doing all the stuff it took to keep plants alive in a confined space with HID :/
