Toker

Hurricane

Recommended Posts

Not a damn again.

Looks like we're going to get throat punched by Florence

Next week if shit don't change.

Lived thru many, inland it's not so bad usually.

Flooding sucks

But few folks realize that inland

If the eye wall cometh your way

Even 100 miles inland can deliver hurricane winds in excess of 120mph.

Oh heavy heavy heavy

@Toker
@Darth Budder

Was it heading for North Carolina ?
Or is the coriolis effect disturbing the estimated trajectory?:nerd

Just hoping everyone and everything stays in one piece wherever it may hit.......

I am not down there but I have had one of our news stations (not revealing political identity by revealing which one lol!) all day and it seems like right now the Carolinas are gonna get hit pretty hard.  The stall out is i think the problem, something like 30inches of rain is forecast?

They claim it will hook south to Wilmington.

I don't believe it yet, looks like a sucker punch to the middle of the state.

We see.

520am.

Still have power....

If it turns like they say part one of devestation will spare us.

The rains? Not so sure about that.

Eye is 24 Nikes off shore, the center.

It's rototilling the coast and huge areas south and east of me.

Morehead is plastered.

When the surge hits the sounds and rivers bye bye Goldsboro and any town on a river.

Getting 50 mph gusts here now

Man if that thing will only turn

Hate to wish it on SC

Florence

You suck

Well, it's down to a Cat 1 with 90 mph gusts, that's a good thing. The rain and ocean swells are still coming, but the wind is letting up quite a bit, that's should help with structural damage. Good luck out there on the Carolina coastlines.

We are out of the woods

Some flooding but not bad

But the Eastern part of state

Is only going to get worse as rivers jump banks.

Hate it for them , but they need to rethink where they live.

Water front property is nice

Till a flood comes.

What really sucks is new folks coming and being  sold houses

In flood plains....

Someone needs their ass kicked

Hey, those new people are aware they are buying in flood plains.  The "it won't happen to me" mentality is what gets them. So they get to live with their choices. Just like New Orleans, what makes you think you can build an entire city below sea level, on the ocean. That was stupidity at its finest.  If people are willing to live in an area where they know they are going to experience hurricanes and tornadoes that's on them. I don't want anyone to get hurt or loose their homes, but they know hurricanes come through every year there, guess its a price they pay for living there.

I don't know man, for houses at the beach I agree.

But this is way way worse.

We have 1900 roads cut off

2 main interstates.

Our state is blessed with rivers

The sounds etc.

But this is awful, folks 30 miles down the road from me under water.

Imagine a creek, peaceful and nice

Imigine that creek with 27 inches of rain.

I have heard 37 trillion gallons of water fell on us.

Places that never flood are flooding , in NC you be hard pressed to drive far without

Going over a river or a creek.

Watching my state slowly drown sucks.

I have seen this before and it never gets easier.

Many many folks are poor

Run?

Where, how, with what?

Move...with whose money.

It's easy to forget that there's way way way more poor mother fuckers than there are rich, and most all of them have little to no real options.

These once in  a thousand year floods are getting annoyingly

Not so 1000 years apart.

My county was lucky this time, we got 10 inches but spread out over 3 days

Yesterday we did have a tornado 5 miles away, and it rained so hard from 4 am till 9 we began to flood but luckily florance vamanosed.

This is a slow killer. A little like Katrina, but spread out over a much wider area. Once in a thousand years, means nobody has ever seen anything like this.

You summed it up Toker. The rains hit the poorest section of the state and the poor people have no way to leave even if the place was ablaze. I'm very familiar with that state having lived there 9 years on both sides of it. It hurts to know what they're dealing with. It's one thing to live on the coast as you know the drill for a bad storm. People inland have no knowledge of weather dynamics on this scale and don't expect these "bigger picture" type events.

I'm going to contact somebody to tell them to start telling people to store life jackets with their survival gear. Nobody ever mentions life jackets,, and most people drown in their own house or being swept away from it. It's always about the water. Always.

Prayers and vibes sent your way. There is a whole new chapter in this storm that is just beginning tomorrow or the next day with all that water going right back down to the lowlands and coast, that is already flooded or saturated. Places that have never seen flood water will see it now. I pray they're all ready.

peace

If you want to know a bit about the background of weather and climate and what we are going to witness with a higher than expected probability.
I was always extremely pessimistic about the system and the situation of the world, but it seems that even I was too optimistic.
These videos are interesting for furthering the knowledge about the dynamics of climate change.

Some places are better, but dayum, some are worse.

The cape fear is going to creast again in Wilmington.

I was thinking, our state minus the hurricane is pretty cool compared to most countries.

We have mountains and skiing

We have beaches people come from all over the world to see.

Many rivers, the sounds.

If you fish you would like it.

It is hot as hell but our average

Yearly temp is 52f.

Our deer herds are estimated to be 600,000

If you like to hunt, you would like it.

Few do, and I guess the banning of chemicals have led to a wildlife boom

When I was young there were no wild turkeys anywhere close.

Now you can see them cross the roads sometimes or gather in fields.

Doves are like song birds,

They coo to you.

They will site feet from you sometimes and make this sound

Cooooo real soft.

I was born on Long island and moved here very young

I miss white Forrests sometimes but in fall here the cotton is in bloom and you can ride and see this snow , kinda cool.

Anyway, sometime  this mess will end and folks can finally

Get their shit together.

Yeah, this was an epic storm. Seems to be the norm these days. Hope the healing comes fast. Prayers and vibes sent. This is the storm that keeps on giving. And it's already long gone.
