Thanks everyone.

I was going to post this yesterday, but then I got high...lol...yeah, just like the song.

When I first started doing research on breeding, I noticed there were a lot of people on the different forums asking for an easy way to get all those seeds separated from the plant. So here is a little step by step on how I do it. It takes me about 5 minutes to get them out and all plant matter removed. A little longer to count those little bastards.

First I hang the plant (or pollinated buds) and let it completely dry. I use a metal mesh kitchen strainer to process it all.

Not a great pic, probably should have trimmer her a little more before I hung her up.

I got my tools 20181125_093047.thumb.jpg.0390723c95e8d26e64e7a352c2808fb7.jpg

"it puts the bud in the basket"

20181125_093221.thumb.jpg.99a37ad51db453a9bf7f17ddc0ecc9b9.jpg

Now just use your fingers and rub the bud around until all the plant material falls through. I was out of gloves, but definitely suggest using them.20181125_093243.thumb.jpg.755169c7c841e072e989ef0547163494.jpg

The seeds stay right where you want them.

20181125_093314.thumb.jpg.d7af297db4a429709a76c05af0f0bf9c.jpg

Dump them to the side and reload the strainer. Keep going until all the seeds are collected. 20181125_093324.thumb.jpg.872a40ad2dd51c3999f2977a35d0aa78.jpg

20181125_101100.thumb.jpg.65fd0cf159fc6c1551b9c2dc790d412d.jpg

Now for the time consuming part. Grab a credit card are piece of stiff card stock and start counting. I count by separating 5 seeds at a time discarding the light colored ones and small pieces of plant material. Then bag them up.

Lemon Bubba x SiFi Blaze F2... 640 wonderful plants, just add water. Once the other plant is finished, The total count should double.

20181125_102214.thumb.jpg.c2f2940b8b7d0637323ae588f455df96.jpg

Now, to all of you who really breed, I need some advice.

If you all remember, When I did the F1, I only had 4 Lemon Bubba x SiFi Blaze seeds. I got lucky and had 2 each male and female plants. Both girls were pollinated by both boys. Would you keep the seeds from each plant separated? Or would you mix them. My first instinct is to bag them separately, but is there really any advantages to knowing which girl they came from. Neither plant has been tested, got to wait for the clones to finish flower.

There are a few of you out there that have got a birdie coming. I'll PM you when they start the flight.

Me I would bag them separately

but the f2 should have a great deal of variety

just an opinion from a pollen chucker I am no breeder by no means just a humble hack

Bag separate until you pick your keeper mom, her offspring would be the ones you go forward with to work the cross, I usually like to grow out and pick my mother then seed the clones taken from her with multi males from selections.

If you don't keep everything separate it's easy to lose the direction you were headed, you know all us old asses have to write everything down. F2's abound in variation, but it's where the unwanted things start showing up and the wrong selections can fall a part going forward, so keep the parents until done so you can go back and re-select if needed. I'm still green compared to a lot of people regarding breeding, so that's just my experience and take or should I say IMHO. Sorry to rattle on, just got home from work and did a bong rip of Blue Orca Haze so I'm pretty chatty.:j

Peace Out,

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ill keep them bagged separately. That was my first instinct. The only reason I considered mixing them is that even though they are F2 they were not "chosen" moms and dad's. There  were only 4 viable seeds from the F1 cross. I wanted to pollinate again to insure there was enough to work with.  Guess that was achieved. Now I have to pop 20 or so to check germs rates. That will happen in 2019.

58 minutes ago, Sunnyvale said:

Looking good bro! I love you G39 with her big buds (if I compare it with my last G39). How does she smell? It look like she is GM dom?

Not much smell from her yet. Funny, I didn't see the GM in her, she doesn't look like the GMs I grew. Guess I have to go back and review my pics.

Edit:

Ok, I went back and looked at my GM pics and the overall plant structure is the same, but I think the buds are building differently. Good eye Sunny.

Here's some bud of the one I grew. Mine was about 5 1/2 feet tall. Frostiest plant I ever grew.

How do you get a pic from your gallery into the post? It was from before the new web page... I can't figure it out. The original is on another compute

@Sunnyvale, I'm not so sure the buds are bigger on my girl. She's not very big. I'll try and get a pic up to show her real size. None of my girls got big this run. The cold slowed them down, and I think the LEDs really kept the stretch to a minimum. Even the clones I took off the Lemon Bubba x SiFi Blaze when she went into flower are still short. They have been vegging in the tent with the LED and are only about 8 inches tall. Super thick and dark green, I'll get some pics of them too here in a bit.

So far, I'm not a fan of the LEDs. I wouldn't talk someone out of buying them, but for me they just aren't doing the trick. Maybe the ones  I have are too much for the 48"x24"x60" tent. I have a single 1000w (400 actual) as high as I can get it in there. The plants are in the same soil and slightly better temp swing and aren't doing as well as the ones under HID. They look healthy, just not growing tall. Internode spacing is tighter than any MJ plant I've seen. Enough talking, let me go get some pics.

So here is a couple of pics of my G39. Standing at only 20 inches tall. 20181201_085457.thumb.jpg.c30f7a2bfa6ff3cc0445bf35bd384051.jpg

Top cola, decent for the size of the plant, I guess.

20181201_085525.thumb.jpg.14935f88433de583ba1d8f485b880876.jpg

Now here are the clones that have been in the tent. These are at about 5 weeks of veg since they rooted. The were topped at the 4th node and have added 7 since. The LEDs just might be the ticket if I was doing bonsai.

20181201_085714.thumb.jpg.ee05e140c5729ce5a0cd758dbdad5e9f.jpg

They would be 3ft tall under MH.

20181201_085736.thumb.jpg.eeb252725f8ef68dab2523551d90d907.jpg

20181201_085753.thumb.jpg.4953fa0106ca232c68e9c9ce559ad25e.jpg

This one is about an 1 1/2 inches shorter.

20181201_090058.thumb.jpg.5dfd774ac033daf27206a9cdad7ece3d.jpg

And going to bag some more seeds today. Pulled the seeded buds off the other Lemon Bubba x SiFi Blaze a few days ago. I'll let the rest of the buds finish up another week or so.

I'd say you'd get a better result in veg from T-5 grow bulbs than that. I know people like them in flower. I have no experience. T-5 do a nice job in early veg, especially considering the cost. Probably more a factor of steady temperature and humidity than the lights, though.
