My first all-clone grow

Recommended Posts

I need to lay in some supplies before rolling the dice on another seed run. Peyote Pancake is my go-to lights out strain, Lemon Sunrise is my go-to lights on strain, and Golden Goat is wonderful.

This was the scene back in May, after they came out of the cloner and went into pots. They were looking rough, and were forced to slum it by sharing the tent with tomatoes, peppers and celery seedlings:

IMG_6521.thumb.jpeg.bb9a8917d85bf53417cbbe0bcfce5197.jpeg

The Lemon Sunrise are the four on the left, 4 Peyote Pancakes just to the right of them and the rest are clones from the three golden goats.

Here they are on the last day of 18/6. I flipped them on June 18:

IMG_6584.thumb.jpeg.3fc74483a9e04a03c536e7973ecc7c8c.jpeg

The Golden Goats were whittled down to 4 plants — two of the longer-flowering pheno that doesn't give me micronutrient/calcium problems, and one each of the troublesome ones. The most troublesome is the light colored one near the center of the tent, but to the right.

The Lemon sunrise are quite obvious, having pre-emptive stakes. She was in flower and now all the clones are revegging.

The Peyote Pancakes are the pretty little wide-leaved plants, very uniform (mostly in the middle-left row, one in the front of the middle-right row). The rest are GGs.

And here they are, two weeks after flip:

IMG_6596.thumb.jpeg.80a4d0db8da26386474bc84eb1208e6d.jpeg

Golden Goats and Peyote Pancakes played a little musical chairs. The big stretchers — the Lemon Sunrise — haven't quite doubled in height yet, and seem to be slowing way down. The Peyote Pancakes didn't seem to stretch at all. The GGs only stretched slightly. Some are on booster seats, at this point, and will probably remain that way.

These HLG LEDs really seem to reduce stretch. And it's at about 50 or 60% power, to keep it from baking these gals.

And the two-week-old buds:

Peyoted Pancake:

Lemon Sunrise:

IMG_6592.thumb.jpeg.69129f5b99f5b6de384eaccefed7f702.jpeg

Two phenos of GG are behind these. The short-flowering pheno is at about the same stage.

It will be great to have all stellar weed when I harvest, but not having the surprises of a seed run hurts. I need to add that extra circuit and put up another tent.

I gotta acquire some of that golden goat seed, seem to be quite a good strain. Your plants are looking excellent.

All three of these have jaw-dropping potency.

A selfed fem is like an F2 — there are a variety of phenos. I'm going to crack the other three to see if I can get some more that don't have this odd pH issue.

For the record (this site has become my record of past grows, more or less) a few pics at the end of week 3.

IMG_6607.thumb.jpeg.17c49f48fd418f30280a623f14a6da14.jpeg

Stretch continues to be minimal. The "holes" in the canopy are places where a Peyote Pancake plant is sitting. They're going to have to get booster seats soon. Lemon Sunrise about doubled in height, and everything else had a lesser stretch..

I thought the nutes in the soil were about depleted now, so I gave this LS a dose of nutes. She seemed to be wanted Mg. I must have overdone it slightly, because her leaves started to slightly hook.

IMG_6608.thumb.jpeg.2905c465e1ff4760d3e837815481c57a.jpeg

Hopefully she'll forgive me.

Buds are tiny, but normal for the end of the 3rd week.

IMG_6612.thumb.jpeg.802a2a088291cc75fab61d756e53b40d.jpeg

The above pics are LS, PP and GG-fast pheno, in that order. The LS is already lemony, the GG is already tropical fruity.

This is the long-flowering pheno, which I HOPE will get down to 10 weeks, as a clone. I'm seeing the fast pheno as the momma for Lemon Thai crosses. Why inject 11-12 week genes, when 8-week genes are readily available?

IMG_6611.thumb.jpeg.94dbfcfe5a327d1ccce13e51cfa88144.jpeg

While this one is powerful AF, the fast one is, too, and I think people would sell their souls for the scent of the fast one. One drawback — it's a tiny fucker. It doesn't grow quickly and probably didn't even root out the pot it's in.

Irie also sells a backcrossed version of GG, which likely has greater vigor than the phenos I've gotten from the feminized S1. I might try that cross in the future, but I have way too many other seeds, patiently waiting their turns to germ.

Looks great!! I found a packet of PP in my box of dreams.  I'll start 5 and we'll see what happens with them. I really only want 1 or 2, and if small structured, that would be fine for me. Again, lovely work MrD!!

I popped 5 and had 2 girls. I kept only one, but it was a toss-up, really. Both were quite potent and smooth. I gave the other 5 away, since I got exactly what I wanted from it.

Hey. Seems like week 4 is over.

IMG_6616.thumb.jpeg.b05146fba02c592a03ff128f46b99e27.jpeg

I kept them short this time. So far, no signs of scorching them with the light. I ramped it up slowly. Yesterday, the tallest plant showed a little stress from the light, so I dropped it back a hair.

The Fox Farms Ocean Forest vs. Coast of Maine battle is on. CoM definitely provides the extra Mg plants seem to need after the flip (Lemon Sunrise is especially Mg hungry at flip). This is a Peyote Pancake with FFOF, followed by one in CoM:

IMG_6619.thumb.jpeg.00182351c87de4f8201ba8b6b27e48ce.jpeg

IMG_6618.thumb.jpeg.c41c275362e2b9e987c17114048d7442.jpeg

The leaves sure are darker with CoM, but bud development is similar in both.

The Lemon Sunrise shows a different story, probably related to the Mg that CoM must be supplying. The first is a FFOF plant:

IMG_6620.thumb.jpeg.d1a5e6110a9f111a32dde8248198d94f.jpeg

IMG_6621.thumb.jpeg.71dcf7c3b5b683849e540f3bd7987180.jpeg

Seems like more calyx development to me, so far. It isn't obvious in these pics, for some reason, but the FFOF Lemon Sunrise plants are lighter in color, too. One of them shows slight Mg deficiency.

I doubt I'll go with CoM, given the price, but this might be much cheaper for Northeastern US growers. I will have another look at the ingredients for CoM and see what I can find to add to my own mix. Lobster compost is probably hard to come by in Michigan, though I've seen some kind of crab shell product sold at my local grow shop. Whatever the case, I love the way this stuff supplies Mg.

Until next time...

Nice job on keeping the canopy even, mine are always so crazy looking.

All the PPs are on booster seats, as are three Golden Goats. There is another plant in a "hole" in the middle that you can't see. If I put her up higher, she'll be way too close to the light, with the various plant-kiddie-seats that I have.

I'm thinking that I flipped too soon, or that I need to do more training next time — lots of second guessing this grow — but we'll see in a few weeks.

In the old MH + HPS days (way, way back in 2020, I reckon!) I would have vegged them longer. But the sativa doms would have been out of hand and too close to the LEDs if I did that now. It's looking more and more like I will have to:

  1. Grow fewer plants at a time
  2. Veg longer
  3. Train the hell out of them
  4. Flip

That means changing my stodgy, lazy ways! Dammit! If only I could blame some branch of government for my troubles.

I was like that when switched to LEDs, I Felt like a new grower lol, had to change my ways, also when I brought in the Octopots, no more vegging for months, for sure some learning curves in there. I outgrew my room the first time with the Octopots, had to use a long hose to water em.

I look forward to octopots, but I'm under constant threat of business trips still. I would have to leave it for a week or more at a time before even completing a first grow.

I'm "stuck" with organic soil for the time being. If I want more weed, I have to add a circuit and a tent, which is in the works. I have the tent and fan, but experts say it will be a little dark in there without a light.

I wonder if you could set it up with a res, control bucket if it would last long enough to leave it for a week. I don't dare, I am so scared of a fire, I have not had a vacation in years. If I didn't grow for patients, I would shut this down and take a break, constant growing for over a decade. Damn, I need a break.

I don't think I could take on patients until I drop the job that sends me all over the place.

But this is the end of week 5, so THE MASSES ARE CLAMORING FOR AN UPDATE!

That gang:

IMG_6623.thumb.jpeg.c0f7ca8b4f3b2aa68e6234da762f2a6e.jpeg

The fun begins, because scents are starting to develop.

Here are three of the Peyote Pancake clones (same mom). The dark one had the Coast of Main soil.

IMG_6624.thumb.jpeg.5e75ff5ea9ee8007a02a8ad8f2967faf.jpeg

The difference may be Mg or a combination of N and Mg.

So far, I can't say buds are larger with one over the other:

IMG_6625.thumb.jpeg.d029f1c6f1e0e6b1a3764f766eb586b3.jpeg

IMG_6626.thumb.jpeg.28cba147842eb2db7edbc26e0a0d281a.jpeg

Buds of Lemon Sunrise seem to be about the same, as well — though I THINK I see more bud sites on the CoM soil plant. It will be all speculation until I weigh the yield. The first is a FFOF:

IMG_6629.thumb.jpeg.05ec7fd9b06b018586953f8d2be75839.jpeg

IMG_6631.thumb.jpeg.f301c0e45dd27f594de2e624f985cacb.jpeg

Maybe I should have used flash on both pics? Oh well.

Here we have one of the golden goat girls who will entertain a Lemon Thai. This gal is tiny, but if her first run is any indication, she will stink up and dominate the scents in the tent in another week or two. And the "stink" is tropical fruit. Just as important, the potency is holy fuck.

IMG_6632.thumb.jpeg.da6dde1115148c35175cb7bcc815420b.jpeg

This is one of the other Golden Goats that will be mated to the Lemon Thai. She is more standard size, but not very tall for a sativa. Stretch was minimal — only added about another 50-70% of its height.

IMG_6627.thumb.jpeg.01b96ac2c34e168ec5004250c600222d.jpeg

Those are some FFOF Lemon Sunrise gals in the background.

Until next week, this kiddie bud porn show will be over.

Looking very healthy. Some are a bit on the yellow side like you might have noticed too. But besides not being it my favorite color on the leaves of beautiful plants, certainly not with reds stems and unfortunately they tend to go hand in hand, experience taught me - and may i add that experience is my favorite teacher on earth - it is really not a biggy. Not at all. Some even say that yellow plants deliver the best.

Different plants require different foods and i know you all know all of this and this is what happens when experienced growers cross paths. There ain't much to say besides that there ain't that much to say and sad as it may be i said it!

Nice first clone only grow, no turning back to seed if you ask me!  Have a nice day @Misterdirt

I still love the mystery of growing new strains, so I will continue to do both. But it is nice to know every bud will be excellent.

It will be another grow or two before I can say I have dialed in. Obviously more Mg and probably NPK for some. Calcium for others.

BTW, I have 6 of your Amnesia x Lemon Thai seeds. They will be crossed to Golden Goat, too.

Wait, maybe Amnesia x Lemon Thai is @hidronesia's?

Clones are awesome, don't have to worry about sex, you know what it is going to be for smoke no guessing games, much quicker turnover.

Yes, it´s hidronesia´s cross.

BTW I see some "Lemon Goat" seeds appear...

I think the fruity nature of the terps will mix really well with that intense lemon of the Thai.

100%. I went through my favorites of my last grow a month ago. I'm smoking stuff I won't be growing again, now. (And it's AMAZING how I've changed my opinion of it! "Hey, this stuff isn't half bad!")

But I still love the surprises of growing from seed. And I've invested a lot in surprises.

Hey, just a heads up (not sure if this is mentioned elsewhere)...

...but Coast of Maine products are available with free ship-to-store delivery on the True Value website:

https://www.truevalue.com

Thanks. It's a few dollars less in my local grow store, so I'll probably stick with them, until I can improve my soil mix to match them.
